The department of BioResources provides health surveillance, preventative disease programs and daily husbandry and care for all laboratory animals at AbbVie Bioresearch Center. The department has primary responsibility for assuring that the Animal Care Program meets the standards for continued accreditation by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and meets the regulations required for compliance with the AnimalWelfare Act (AWA).
The Technician I is responsible for the husbandry care for the animals. He/She also has direct contact with animals providing husbandry and cage changing. The person cleans cages using cage wash machinery and prepares feed and bedding for the technicians. The person will perform some technical procedures.
Responsibilities
- •Maintain cage wash equipment: tunnelwasher, rack washer & autoclave
• Maintain cage wash areas
• Order, receive, and autoclave feed, bedding, and water
• Process caging
• Clean laundry & maintain laundry
• Environmental monitoring on bottle filler, rack & tunnel washers
• Operate the hydropac system
• Perform ID, IP, and SC injections
• Perform non- survival blood collection methods such as cardiac puncture and vena cava bleeds
• Perform euthanasia methods such as CO2 and exsanguination - • Perform animal ID such as ear punching, ear tagging, and ink marking
• Learn and perform PO and IV injections
• Learn and perform survival blood collection methods such as tail vein
• Learn and perform formulation preparation
• Learn and perform arthritic model scoring
• Learn and perform anesthesia of rodents
• Learn PK/Tox procedures
• Other duties as needed
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 years experience in laboratory animal field, or AS/BS and 1 year experience. Or, ALAT certification with High School Diploma and 1 year experience, or ALAT with AS/BS degree.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Able to perform repetitive procedures.
- Must be adaptable and flexible to meet demands of ever changing work environment.
- Must be able to trouble shoot cage wash machinery.
- Advises co-workers and/or supervisor of problems.
- Understands and acts on detailed instructions.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
