Job Description

The Senior Specialist, Communications, leads the development and execution of executive-sponsored communications and culture initiatives for the Commercial Business Technology Solutions organization as well as the development and execution of Executive-sponsored communications and culture initiatives. In partnership with the Commercial BTS Vice President and senior leadership team, this role drives strategic messaging and campaigns, representing the executive's voice, while reinforcing a consistent, unified BTS across BTS Commercial, strengthening alignment with the BTS Performance Roadmap and priorities. This includes leadership communications, employee engagement programs, town halls, newsletters, branding initiatives, and digital platforms like Teams and SharePoint.

Key responsibilities include producing internal stories, helping plan signature events such as global town halls and team meetings, overseeing vendor relationships for creative outputs like video and graphic design, managing recognition and culture programs, and integrating enterprise-wide messaging to deliver a seamless colleague experience, ensuring clear alignment to BTS priorities and strengthening understanding of BTS’ role and impact with global town halls and meetings designed to reinforce and extend the broader BTS communication cascade. Success in this role requires someone equally comfortable setting the strategic vision and rolling up their sleeves to produce polished, compelling content, using feedback and data to continuously raise the bar on communication effectiveness across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the development, execution, measurement and continuous improvement of communications and culture plans and initiatives, strengthening BTS brand positioning and reinforcing the BTS identity.
  • Partner with functional senior leadership team to advance the function’s strategic objectives through purposeful leadership communications, employee engagement initiatives, branding and reputation-building, and ongoing feedback/listening and improvement.
  • Lead communications team, including specialists and/or interns, to develop and produce engaging employee communications, including live, hybrid and virtual town halls; people leader meetings; newsletters and emails; social media; and more.
  • Manage vendor resources to execute creative projects (e.g., videos, graphics, town halls/events).
  • Own the function’s channels, branding and assets, ensuring alignment to BTS and AbbVie corporate brand standards, while driving consistency and clarity of the BTS identity and story across all communications.
  • Systematically gather employee feedback and engagement metrics; report insights and recommendations to function’s leadership team, driving the continuous improvement of communications plans each year.
  • Support executive sponsored recognition events and internal programs and external engagement social media, etc.
  • Partners with employee committees to support continuous improvement efforts around EEDI, culture, onboarding, or other evolving priorities. Pull through key enterprise messages and initiatives from BTS, Corporate and HR to drive a seamless and integrated experience, while ensuring alignment to AbbVie enterprise priorities and reinforcing a unified BTS voice and identity.
  • Enforces and educates on policies and guidelines related to social media, external communications, enterprise communications, Commercial BTS branding and corporate branding.
  • Provide expertise and support where needed as a member of the Communications and Culture team for signature events and BTS-wide initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or a similar field plus 6 years of experience; or Master's degree plus 5 years of experience; or PhD with zero experience.
  • Experience and proven track record of success partnering with senior (VP-level) leaders and managing leadership communications and employee engagement initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and reinforce brand standards and contribute to consistent, enterprise-aligned communications across BTS and AbbVie.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills along with knowledge of emerging communication trends and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to enforce and educate employees on communications policies and brand standards/guidelines
  • Advanced project management skills and expertise with M365
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to work together effectively
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to anticipate team needs

Preferred:

  • Experience in the healthcare/bio-pharma industry a plus

This range may be  modified in the future. ​

  • This job is eligible to  participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​
