Job Description

The Quantitative, Translational, and ADME Sciences (QTAS) Department at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated and energetic bioanalytical Senior Scientist II to join the High-Throughput Automation Bioassay and Bioanalysis (HT-ABBA) group in North Chicago, IL. The main function of this position will be supporting LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry)-based bioanalysis, developing methods for Small Molecules and Peptides, and leading junior scientists. The ideal candidate will be experienced in development, optimization and implementation of LC-MS/MS bioanalytical methods to support In Vitro and pre-clinical In Vivo studies, as well as in managing junior scientists.


Responsibilities  

  • Research and develop bioanalytical LC-MS/MS based methods for quantifying small molecules and peptides in biofluids and tissues.
  • Perform high-throughput quantitative bioanalysis for In Vitro assays, PK/PD and TK studies of small molecules and peptides in biological matrices.
  • Operate and maintain LC-MS/MS and automated instruments. Identify and troubleshoot instruments as needed.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and implement new methodologies, platforms, and technologies to meet challenging assay requirements and throughput while maintaining effective resource utilization.
  • Act as the bio-analyst leader on multiple projects, interacting with collaborators and project team representatives to understand study impact, define project needs and priorities, and present work internally and externally.
  • Manage and mentor junior scientists.
  • Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) and manage study documentation in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Qualifications

  • PhD (4+ years), M.S. (10+ years), or B.S. (12+ years) in analytical chemistry or related field with relevant pharmaceutical industry experience with a focus on bioanalysis and mass spectrometry.
  • Strong LC-MS/MS method development background with direct experience in bioanalysis/assays and understanding of both experimental design and analytical practices required.
  • Expertise with current high-throughput LC-MS/MS platforms (e.g., Leap autosamplers, Sciex API-6500/7500 triple quadrupoles), software (e.g., Sciex Analyst and/or OS, Electronic notebooks, LIMS, Discovery Quant) and automated sample preparation (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan Dispenser) platforms.
  • Working experience with high resolution MS (TOF or orbitrap) and/or EchoMS for the bioanalysis of small molecules and peptides will be a plus.
  • Working experience of regulated bioanalysis and/or CRO settings will be a plus.
  • Excellent personal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail, enabling effective independent work and success within a matrix team environment.
  • Desire to excel in a fast-paced environment, with strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
