Overview:
The Medical Excellence Specialist strengthens AbbVie’s medical affairs team by championing best practices, fostering innovation, and advancing digital capabilities. Acting as a bridge between strategy and operations, this role ensures that medical teams consistently deliver value and maintain high standards, in line with AbbVie’s commitment to patient centricity, innovation, and integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote the adoption of medical excellence standards and drive ongoing improvements across medical affairs.
- Track and assess performance metrics to identify areas for organizational impact.
- Develop practical processes, tools, and materials to support Medical Excellence.
- Support the technical implementation & adoption of existing & new technologies and digital practices department wide.
- Create, deliver, and maintain training programs and resources tailored to various medical affairs activities, including fieldwork, evidence generation, and publications.
- Support AbbVie’s digital transformation through projects such as omnichannel communication and advancing digital expertise within the in-field medical team.
- Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Medical Excellence to introduce innovative, digital solutions that enhance scientific engagement and operational performance.
- Gather feedback on needs and opportunities, sharing insights with leadership to drive continuous improvement.
- Stay updated on global trends in medical affairs, digital health, and compliance to keep our practices current and compliant.
Education:
- Advanced degree in Life Sciences or related field.
Experience:
- Experience in scientific or medical communications, preferably in an agency environment.
- Experience in pharmaceutical industry (an asset)
- Minimum 2 years of experience with Customer Relationship Management system, preferably VEEVA (an asset)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in development of multi/omnichannel plans & development of digital technologies including: Veeva Approved Emails (VAEs), Closed-Loop Media (CLM), Interactive Medical Aids (IMAs) (an asset)
- Exceptional skills in project planning and management.
- inexperience working and coordinating with in-field team members and working in a cross-functional or matrix setting.

- Digitally native, eager to learn new platforms; with awareness of emerging trends and technologies within & outside of the pharmaceutical industry
- Agile, adaptable to change, responsive to team needs, with an understanding & ability to appropriately gauge the sense of urgency, prioritization of the diverse types of requests from varied internal and external stakeholders; able to succeed in a fast-paced setting
- A track record of successfully driving change, with a focus on delivering high-quality results to the medical affairs team & the overall business
- Proven ability to take initiative, able to self-manage, balance workload & priorities and adjust with agility and accountability accordingly
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Resourceful, creative, and able to bring fresh insights & new ways of working to a dynamic, fast-paced, business environment
- Influential without direct authority; skilled at leading cross-functional projects.
- Committed to compliance, scientific rigor, and ethical standards.
- Curious & passionate about healthcare innovation and technology.
- Collaborative, with strong relationship-building skills with internal & external stakeholders.

Travel:10% of time
