Role Overview:

The Head, Pricing and Specialty Care is a senior leader on the Market Access team, accountable for driving pricing, contracting strategies for the full portfolio and optimal market access, and health economics & outcomes research (HEOR) for AbbVie’s specialty care portfolio. This individual serves as the primary point of contact with Global and Area colleagues on issues related to pricing & specialty Market Access.  The individual will oversee teams in both Pricing/Contracting and Specialty Care Market Access/HEOR to optimize reimbursement and compliance across public and private payers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead teams of Market Access, HEOR, Pricing Managers, and Analysts to develop and execute market access, pricing, contracting, and HEOR strategies to gain, maintain, and optimize reimbursement for new and existing products.
  • Coach team to go beyond pricing analyses to provide data-driven insights, build innovative pricing models, and provide clear pricing recommendations to market access teams.
  • Oversee HTA dossier submissions for CADTH, INESSS, and private payers, including economic model development/adaptation for the specialty business (Eye care, HCV, URO GYNE, established brands).
  • Develop robust, data-driven business cases for price approval at local, area, and global levels fo the full portfolio
  • Monitor and Track performance for all price contracting across the business including public, private and hospital contracting.  
  • Manage PMPRB strategy, compliance, reporting, and analysis for AbbVie’s portfolio; devise strategies to maximize opportunities under PMPRB guidelines while ensuring compliance.
  • Provide strategic insights for payer negotiations (pCPA, private payers) and support negotiation strategies for new and marketed products.
  • Monitor healthcare and payer policy environment for price/access implications; contribute to AbbVie’s positions with regard to HTA, pricing, and market access policy, representing AbbVie in industry groups (IMC, BTC).
  • Lead alignment sessions with Finance and Commercial teams to support financial planning with environmental updates and pricing/access assumptions for 1 year and 5-10 year Long Range Planning.
  • Develop and operationalize internal pricing guidance, approval SOPs, and maintain the Global pricing database; coordinate communication of price changes to payers.
  • Oversee team to maintain vigilance on movements of competitor pricing and pricing regulations to ensure AbbVie is competitively positioned while ensuring internally and externally compliant pricing practices. 
  • Manage cost centers and monitor timelines/expenditure for market access initiatives and HEOR/RWE studies as appropriate
  • Serve as key contact for Area/Global inquiries related to price and access assumptions, scenario planning, and financial planning.
  • Build consensus among cross-functional stakeholders; ensure Canadian perspectives inform therapeutic/product assessments through clinical development and commercial decisions.
  • Coach teams to innovate, see the big picture, balance short- and long-term priorities, and deliver impactful, insight-driven recommendations.
  • Accountable for reviewing and approving payer agreement financial terms and conditions (Product Listing Agreements, Letters of Intent).
  • Manage cost centers and monitor timelines/expenditure for market access initiatives and HEOR/RWE studies as appropriate 
  • Serve as key contact for Area/Global inquiries related to price and access assumptions, scenario planning, and financial planning.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Pharmacy, Accounting, Finance, Health Sciences or Business; Pharm.D. or Graduate Degree (pharmacoeconomics, epidemiology, drug development, MBA) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with 3-5 years in a similar position, and 7-10 years relevant in pricing/market access/contracting.
  • Expertise in the Canadian pharmaceutical landscape, including multiple HTA submissions, PMPRB regulations/guidelines management, pricing, contracting, and direct payor negotiations.
  • Previous experience leading high-performing teams, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and career development.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of public/private drug reimbursement, health technology assessment processes, pharmacoeconomic principles, and methodological developments in Canada.
  • Strong strategic & analytical thinking: ability to understand, synthetize and communicate complex concepts and outcomes and distil into clear executive-level  story-telling; coaches team to do the same.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with P&Ls, NPV analyses, financial modelling, and building business cases.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to manage conflict constructively.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking, able to synthesize and communicate complex concepts to executive audiences.
  • Creative and out-of-the-box thinking to drive innovative pricing and market access models.
  • Elevates organizational capabilities through coaching, sharing best practices, and raising the bar
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and team collaboration skills, able to build consensus and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management, prioritization, and ability to work under tight deadlines with high quality standards.
  • Advanced French and English proficiency required (verbal/written); language courses provided if needed.
  • Proven ability to work within a cross-functional team and within a large organization
  • Ability to inspire impactful storytelling, coach teams, and elevate organizational capabilities.
  • Strong clinical acumen with capacity to work across multiple therapeutic areas.
