The Government Affairs Manager is responsible for leading AbbVie’s external engagement and advocacy efforts in Poland with government policymakers and key stakeholders. The role focuses on shaping a predictable, patient-centered, and innovation-friendly policy environment that supports sustainable access to innovative medicines, protects the company’s interests in a dynamic healthcare landscape, and reinforces AbbVie’s reputation as a trusted partner to the health system.
The position works cross-functionally with Market Access, Medical, Legal, Communications, and Commercial teams to define and execute government affairs strategies aligned with AbbVie’s business objectives, compliance standards, and broader strategic priorities.
Key responsibilities
- Shape the external policy environment
Develop and execute government affairs strategies that contribute to a predictable, patient-centered, and innovation-friendly policy and regulatory environment in Poland. - Influence healthcare policy and legislation
Monitor, analyze, and engage on key policy, legislative, and regulatory developments that may impact patient access, market conditions, and AbbVie’s long-term business objectives. - Support sustainable access to innovation
Contribute to efforts that strengthen the value and recognition of innovative medicines within the healthcare system and support sustainable access frameworks in a changing reimbursement environment. - Drive strategic stakeholder engagement
Build and maintain trusted relationships with key external stakeholders, including government institutions, policymakers, healthcare authorities, trade associations, and other relevant opinion leaders. - Provide policy and stakeholder intelligence
Maintain a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape, stakeholder priorities, and emerging policy trends to inform strategic decision-making and identify risks and opportunities early. - Shape advocacy priorities and issue management
Proactively identify strategic issues, develop advocacy positions, and support targeted engagement plans that advance AbbVie’s business and policy objectives. - Collaborate cross-functionally
Work closely with Market Access, Medical, Legal, Communications, and Commercial teams to ensure aligned messaging, coordinated planning, and compliant execution of external affairs activities. - Represent AbbVie externally
Represent AbbVie in relevant external forums, industry platforms, and stakeholder dialogues, ensuring the company is seen as a credible, constructive, and trusted partner. - Contribute to strategic prioritization and decision-making
Support the affiliate in balancing short-term and long-term priorities, translating policy developments into actionable recommendations, and identifying the most effective strategic trade-offs. - Leverage regional and global best practices
Share local insights and contribute to the broader regional and global government affairs network, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and access to best practices.
Qualifications
- University degree in a relevant field such as public policy, law, political science, economics, public administration, health policy, or a related discipline
- 5–8 years of professional experience in environments directly involved in public policy shaping, preferably gained within public institutions, ministerial or parliamentary offices, political advisory roles, regulatory bodies, trade associations, think tanks, media, or other policy-facing stakeholder organizations
- Strong strategic mindset and business acumen with analytical, problem-solving, and judgment skills, with the ability to operate in a complex, fast-paced, and evolving environment
- Demonstrated exposure to policymaking, stakeholder influence, and public affairs dynamics; experience in pharma is not essential
- Strong understanding of policy development processes, institutional decision-making, and stakeholder landscapes, ideally within the Polish context
- Proven ability to build and maintain credible relationships with senior stakeholders across government, public sector, and broader policy ecosystems
- Strong strategic communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policy issues into clear, credible, and compliant messages
- Demonstrated capability in stakeholder management, issue analysis, and cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization while managing multiple priorities with professionalism and discretion
- Fluency in English at executive/business level;

Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
