Job Description

The Manager of Compliance Standards and Training advances the organization's global compliance framework by developing impactful compliance standards and innovative training strategies that have significant impact on the company's ethics and compliance program, enhancing risk management and ethical business practices. The position serves as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams, driving harmonization of compliance initiatives across the organization while incorporating diverse global perspectives to consistently improve outcomes for the Office of Ethics and Compliance.     

  • Manages the OEC training strategy, plan, and curricula, including prioritization of topics and audiences, appropriate methods of communication, innovative instructional design, training governance processes, and risk mapping to ensure all courses are appropriately mapped to risk and metadata.
  • Develops and maintains global compliance standards (policies, procedures, guidance, SOPs) and training content on moderate to complex topics, ensuring alignment with legal requirements, regulatory best practices, and emerging developments.
  • Evaluates compliance risk metrics for policies and training topics, conducts risk/needs assessments, identifies trends, and provides expert recommendations on best practices to resolve medium to low-risk activities.
  • Monitors and analyzes the training metrics ecosystem and training effectiveness by identifying trends and opportunities; develops and implements continuous improvement plans to optimize training effectiveness and processes.
  • Leads cross-functional teams to reach consensus on standards and training strategies, methods, development, access, and implementation; builds and maintains effective relationships across all business units including Commercial, R&D, affiliates, Business Technology Solutions, HR, and Legal.
  • Partners with internal subject matter experts to collaboratively develop training courses and policies that incorporate diverse perspectives and advance the organization's compliance objectives.
  • Drives training innovation and harmonization by staying abreast of best practices, tools, and technology; monitors OEC learning management system and AI tools, and implements continuous improvement plans to enable impactful training delivery across the organization.
  • Optimizes training implementation across learning management system, platforms and tools in collaboration with the Training Administrator, ensuring effective delivery and access for diverse audiences.
  • Provides compliance guidance and policy interpretation to all levels of key business functions, including compliance risk assessment, trend analysis, and functional-level requirements for routine to moderately complex matters.
  • Delivers training as necessary and readily assesses and resolves compliance issues, escalating to appropriate stakeholders when required.

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degree in training, compliance, law, education, or related field preferred. Preference for experience in the field of adult learning.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in training, compliance, legal, regulatory affairs, or related business functions within the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical device industry, or other highly regulated industry.
  • Experience developing compliance standards and training materials for complex regulatory environments, with proficiency in instructional design systems and tools (e.g., Articulate Rise, Canva, Synthesis).
  • Experience managing and utilizing learning or content management systems (such as LRN, SumTotal, Cornerstone, Blackboard, Contentful) and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Smartsheet) for collecting, analyzing, and visualizing compliance and training metrics.
  • Proven ability to build strong collaborative relationships, with demonstrated agility, adaptability, and a continuous improvement mindset focused on raising standards and challenging the status quo.
  • Strong project management skills with proven leadership of cross-functional teams and external partners on large-scale initiatives.
  • Strategic thinking and business planning abilities to effectively diagnose needs, support the development of strategies, and influence organizational direction.
  • Strong communication skills with expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and leveraging technology for data analysis and impactful presentations.
  • This role is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three (3) days onsite in the respective AbbVie location.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. ​

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​
