Job Description

Purpose:

The Associate Director, Pharmacy Services reports directly to the VP and drives focus on pharmacy practice and dispensing for all programs including Patient Assistance Program (PAP), bridge, and product replacement. This role is responsible for the overall strategy, direction, operational processes, and tools of the pharmacy. The Associate Director ensures the highest standards in compliance, employee safety, product quality, customer service, and productivity within the Covered Entity. Additionally, the individual must have a comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of healthcare drug reimbursement to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. Develop short and long-range goals/objectives, policies, procedures, budgets, strategic and operating plans for the pharmacy.
  • Manage relationships within the pharmacy, multiple PAP teams, AbbVie Access Support (AAS) and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure programs meet the needs of our patients.
  • Ensure the highest standards in compliance with regulatory requirements. Promote a culture of safety and quality, ensuring employee safety and product quality. Manage adherence to all corporate, division and departmental procedures and policies as well as pharmacy law. Partner and align with the Quality & Compliance Director and Privacy Officer to facilitate/ensure compliance to HIPAA and address potential patient privacy concerns.
  • Lead and mentor pharmacy management, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Provide feedback to others to build pharmacy knowledge and deliver improved patient experience. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and capabilities.
  • Manage pharmacy resources including staff, budget, and inventory to ensure optimal operation and cost-effectiveness. Implement best practices in pharmacy management to maximize productivity. Seek innovative solutions to capitalize on pharmacist opportunities, efficiencies and productivity.
  • Strong coordination and partnership with Data & Analytics organization to support compliant data integration and data sharing. Actively contributes to the formulation of project scope, timelines, and deliverables. Seek agreement and input from sponsors, senior management and business partners.
  • Partner closely with Pharmacist in Charge to ensure alignment with building wide approach and pharmacy legal requirement.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Pharmacy from an accredited pharmacy program is required.
  • Licensure in the state of Illinois is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of pharmacy or pharmaceutical industry-related experience with at least 5 years in an operational, business, and people management capability required.
  • Knowledge of retail/specialty/mail order pharmacy operations, applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in order to ensure solid understandings and productive discussions with senior leadership. Strong analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding and comprehension of corporate and departmental level financial management which includes budgeting, accounts receivable, etc.
  • Excellent leadership skills to manage relationships with multiple AbbVie teams to ensure programs meet the needs of our patients.
  • Possess a broad understanding of overall environmental considerations that affect medication access, including a strong knowledge of access to AbbVie medications.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
