This is a remote position with up to 50% domestic travel required. Candidates may reside anywhere in the United States.
The National Medicaid team strategically develops and executes contracts within the State Medicaid programs across AbbVie brands. In addition, the team serves as AbbVie’s Medicaid subject matter expert, partnering cross-functionally to drive planning and execution from pre-launch through maturity. The team also plays a key role in shaping AbbVie’s response to government-driven initiatives affecting the portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for executing contracts for AbbVie brands with Medicaid PBMs by leading customer interactions and coordinating with Marketing, Finance, and field-based Area Access teams.
- Serve as the lead contact with Medicaid PBM customers. Develop state level relationships to assist in Medicaid opportunities
- Serve as subject matter expert to execute contracts, including direct contracts in conjunction with the Area Access teams, MFN, etc.
- Coordinate messaging with AAE teams to communicate the value of the AbbVie portfolio, ensure individual state criteria are aligned to required criteria and protects patient’s access to medications
- Proactively identify risks and opportunities from customers to inform bid strategies
- Applies financial and business expertise to develop contracting strategies that balance patient access, business goals and financial stewardship
- Actively participate and serve as a subject matter expert for Medicaid legislation such as MFN and PDABs
- Actively coordinate with the field Area Access team on messaging with state pharmacy directors, gathering insights to inform strategy, and ensuring clear contract terms at the state level
- Develop and implement standardized contract monitoring dashboards to ensure rigorous tracking and compliance
- Conduct Medicaid contracting analysis by coordinating with internal teams and external vendors
- Collaborate across the Medicaid team for brand strategies, financial planning, resource generation and idea sharing
- Develop strong working relationships with payer marketing by engaging in analytical rigor, strategic decision making and strong stewards of AbbVie finances
- Convey clinical expertise and collaborate with MOSLs to support customer engagements
- Engage in high-priority internal meetings to represent the perspective of customer, support Director of Medicaid on strategy development and present business matters to leadership
- Support Director of Medicaid with any internal upskilling sessions to ensure Medicaid understanding across the organization
- Represent Medicaid innovation or pilot projects aligned with strategy
- Coordinate with pricing team for effective checkpoint processes, tracking and contract execution
- Lead/participate in cross-brand resource planning to coordinate Medicaid impact with broader commercial objectives
- Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy or business-related field preferred or relevant and equivalent industry experience required
- 5+ years of market access or account management experience, preferably in a role that was inclusive of direct contracting
- 2+ years of experience in leadership and/or marketing in a healthcare or related business. Experience engaging with Medicaid customers preferred
- Strong business acumen; analytical ability to analyze diverse sets of data using multiple tools and define account/contracting strategies that drive business objectives
- Proven track record of success in sales performance and presentation skills supporting ability to provide presentations to leadership
- Proven track record of operating effectively in a large, complex geography and influencing diverse stakeholders to achieve results
- Effectively demonstrate leadership skills; ability to lead without direct authority. Has experience successfully leading diverse teams on complex projects or challenges to achieve results
- Demonstrates in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge and is recognized as an expert resource by all relevant stakeholders
- Demonstrated understanding of how to maintain product pricing structure and market share through forward-thinking, innovative strategies that align with Abbvie and customer objectives
- Strong business acumen and possess strategic and critical thinking capabilities
- Operates effectively in a matrix environment. Provides impact with ideas for the larger organization and anticipates and responds to changes
- Willing to challenge and look beyond how things have been done historically and offer new and innovative solutions
- Driving a personal auto or company car or truck, or a powered piece of material handling equipment.
- Valid driver’s license: Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and meet safe driving requirements.
