Job Description

The Immunology Payer Strategy team leads the development and execution of the pricing, contracting, and messaging strategy for AbbVie’s Immunology portfolio (SKYRIZI, RINVOQ, and HUMIRA) across payer channels in a highly volatile market.  The team resides within the Market Access function but works with multiple cross-functional partners, namely the Immunology Brand team, in support of the overarching commercial strategy.

In a market of increasing competition, new market disruptors and an evolving external environment, this position will have responsibility for the creation and execution of Market Access strategy for AbbVie’s Immunology portfolio in the Government channels - Medicare, Medicaid, VA/DoD – and other payer customers such as Kaiser.  This individual will be charged with bringing an innovative and customer-centric approach to help defend Immunology portfolio value to preserve and expand SKYRIZI and RINVOQ access by anticipating and developing a purposeful contracting strategy and delivering impactful narrative to optimize customer dynamics in an evolving landscape.  Additional areas of opportunity are understanding and applying strategies to navigate the impact of government initiatives such IRA and MFN, as well as more restrictive Utilization Management implemented by government payers.

Major responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • In collaboration with the Market Access Cross-Portfolio Strategy team, design and execute contracting strategy that helps optimize long-term Medicare Corporate Accounts for the Immunology portfolio
  • Lead the creation and execution of Market Access strategy for the Immunology portfolio in the Medicaid channel.
  • Partner with the Market Access Federal account team to navigate RFPs from national payer customers, create proposals, and quarterback alignment on proposals with internal Brand / Market Access leadership
  • Ensure Medicare, Medicaid and Federal customer perspective is incorporated into ongoing brand planning and Market Access strategic planning activities
  • Effectively build relationships and influence across a large matrix of cross-functional stakeholders (Market Access Leadership, Account Management teams, Brand, Medical / Regulatory, OEC, MABI, Finance, Contracting, Government Affairs / Advocacy, Legal) to ensure solid understanding of Federal and Employer customer issues
  • Collaborate with Finance and Analytics teams to ensure accurately prepared forecasts, scenarios, and contingencies for key financial planning cycles (LBE, Plan, LRP) and price governance counsel
  • Encourage and embody an “All for One AbbVie” enterprise approach through constant curiosity and learning / sharing of best practices


Significant Work Activities - Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day), Keyboard use (greater or equal to 50% of the workday)


Qualifications

  • Strong learning and growth mindset to take on challenges without a formal blueprint in a rapidly evolving marketplace
  • Effective leadership, intrapersonal, critical thinking, and analytical skills to ensure that the strategic direction for market access and pricing is in balance with Corporate and Employer customer needs as well as AbbVie corporate objectives
  • Ability to triangulate quantitative inputs/outputs, comprehend the key drivers, and synthesize that into conclusions and contracting strategy
  • Executive presence, communication skills, and ability to advocate for / defend positions
  • Basic understanding of payer and reimbursement dynamics and key environmental risks for the Immunology portfolio
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt and make decisions with less than perfect information
  • Demonstrated history of collaboration and team orientation, with experience accomplishing results through others and by influencing others 
  • Demonstrated ability to align cross-functional stakeholders and influence without authority
  • Positive, solutions-oriented attitude aligned with Market Access culture
  • 5+ years of biopharmaceutical or Payer experience, Market Access / Immunology / Marketing experience preferred 
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
