Job Description

The Associate Director, Content Strategy & Development helps set the strategic direction and creative vision for impactful, high-quality healthcare content that enhances and protects AbbVie’s reputation and accelerates business objectives. An exceptional creative writer/director and content strategist, the associate director creates content activations across channels and formats that deliver results.

More specifically, this individual will help develop and manage long- and short-form editorial content and web content, including video, social and web assets that meet clear marketing and business objectives. Working closely with key partners across the social and web teams, corporate communications, brand communications, affiliates and other functional teams, this position provides strategic counsel for AbbVie, develops annual content plans and owns development of content campaigns for the enterprise.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Build and socialize content strategy methods, recommendations, thought leadership and rationale to colleagues.
  • Advise colleagues and functional teams on specific content strategies to achieve functional or campaign objectives
  • Direct and/or develop original content in a variety of formats, from web content and articles to social content, infographics, videos and more
  • Develop ideas for new content activations and new channels based on a deep understanding of trends, audience insights and the external environment
  • Collaborate closely with other functional teams to map and optimize content while using measurement to test, learn and improve efforts
  • Provide input and recommendations on media strategy, including audience targeting, channels and formats, working with the social team to ensure advertising efforts are strategic and achieve goals
  • Direct agency partners from briefing through creative development to ensure written and visual content is impactful, effective and delivers the right brand image for AbbVie
  • Mentor others in Corporate Affairs on content and storytelling
  • Help develop standards, processes and tools to drive greater efficiencies in how we work and operate as a cross-functional team
  • Stay on top of content marketing trends and bring new ideas for to explore and test
     

Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of content development experience, preferably in healthcare, B2B or regulated industry (either client or agency based)
  • Minimum of 3 years digital marketing experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Integrated Marketing or equivalent
  • Strong business acumen; experience in healthcare/bio-pharma a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with curiosity and knowledge of emerging communications and creative trends and platforms
  • Strong portfolio of published work that demonstrates exceptional writing skills and ability to translate complex topics into simple, digestible content that breaks through the noise.
  • Ability to tell a story visually, selecting compelling imagery for content and ideating around new visual ways (graphics, videos, social assets) to bring a story to life. Video experience is a plus.
  • A thinker and a doer mindset; someone who is excited about driving strategy with the ability to simultaneously rolling up your sleeves to concept, write and edit content in a variety of formats
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative team player with great interpersonal skills and the ability to work cross-functionally
  • Ability to deliver feedback thoughtfully and receive it gracefully
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​ Salary: $156,000 - $296,500

  • We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick), medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.​

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​

  • This job is eligible to participate in our long-term incentive programs​
