Business Services Group (BSG) provides an in-house creative service to AbbVie. The primary function of Creative Services is to provide high level design and creative messaging to support a variety of communications programs. The person in this role must be capable of managing a team of Creatives and others, as required.
This is a hybrid position requiring the ability to commute to our Irvine, CA office at least 3 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Leads the creative functions within BSG so that the environment, team capabilities, tools, processes, expectations, work style and other elements support the mission and vision of BSG. Possesses excellent design skills, creative vision and leadership, understands creative integrity, bringing fresh direction and insight to creative while maintaining defined AbbVie design standards, corporate branding and its application.
- Employs expertise in all facets of the creative process to direct the team to produce the best possible creative solutions. Reviews work within the respective group to ensure its quality and creative integrity support the strategic goals and objectives defined.
Collaborates closely with the other agency functions, account, resource/traffic, meeting production to enhance the overall creative process, simplifying how work is do - Manage and develop long-range business plan for BSG Creative Services. This includes setting the strategy and reviewing current and future design trends to sustain growth and a competitive advantage.
- Continually assess the overall creative and workflow model, processes, organizational structure and individual roles for the creative; manage the recruitment, selection and succession planning activities to ensure professional and business goals are met. Performs activities related to employee relations including vacation, timecards, leave.
- Identify emerging market trends and suitable communication methodologies and conduct competitor assessments. Create a strategy to support BSG communication needs, client demands and drive growth for the BSG Creative Services organization
- Oversee team management including tracking of project status, deliverables and issues; developing and tracking relevant metrics; ensuring resources are properly allocated; and ensuring tasks/projects are prioritized to support clients' strategies and objectives.
- Provide both creative and business expertise as part of the BSG Creative Services leadership team collaborating with Account Management. Effectively manage the department operating budget; look for opportunities for process improvements and cost savings and oversee staff established utilization targets.
- A great leader, able to coach, identify key talent, train, and motivate staff who possess a high level of creativity and drive. Responsible for compliance with all applicable Corporate policies and procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) preferred - Art, Communication or Marketing preferred.
- Master’s degree in fine arts or business beneficial but not required.
- Total combined minimum years of experience: 10+ years – prefer mix of agency and corporate with demonstrated creative ability and broad range portfolio.
- Develop solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovativeness. Ensures solutions are consistent with organization objectives.
- Superb communication skills; written, presentation and oral, working in a fast-paced, complex, matrix environment. Expert at presenting creative ideas and campaigns to Executive Leadership. Works with confidential and sensitive communications.
- Works independently leading a high functioning team, coaching employees and establishing performance standards. Continually evaluates and develops team members’ personal skills that will enhance team performance.
- Manages recruitment, selection, and succession planning activities to ensure professional and business goals are met. Demonstrates leadership and finesse in conflict resolution to facilitate effective outcomes across BSG departments, internal and external stakeholders.
Key Stakeholders
Projects produced are very visible and must be of the highest quality even under tight deadlines. Clients can include CEO, Finance, R&D, Commercial management and marketing teams, Public Affairs, Human Resources, Legal and OEC.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
