Purpose Statement:

The main purpose of this position is to design, develop and implement activities that enable AbbVie to secure optimal reimbursement and realize the maximum commercial potential of current and future AbbVie products marketed in Japan, creating evidence that is reasonable in light of drug price standards and focused on economic aspects, in collaboration with internal stakeholders and related sections of Global/Intercon and further developing the reputation of AbbVie as a credible, research-based pharmaceutical organization that brings high value products to patients and stakeholders in Japan.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Health Economics/HTA
    • Develop and execute market access strategies that appropriately reflects the value of AbbVie's products to remove barrier for patients to be able to access new products and already launched products, aligning with brand strategies and global market access strategies
    • Provide input to Clinical Development, Marketing, and Global/Intercon from the early stage of development that will lead to more desirable drug prices
    • Lead HTA submission dossier and lead the HTA negotiations with MHLW/HTA agency in collaboration with related internal functions and regional/global team
    • Develop HEOR/HTA data in line with brand strategies, identifying data/evidence requirements for reimbursement and patient access issues, and to execute HEOR/HTA studies, managing value/scientific communication plans and outputs through congress presentations and publications
  2. Others
    • Monitor and assess health insurance and pricing policy changes, and provide timely feedback to related functions for optimizing the strategy
    • Expand network with HEOR experts in the industry for deepening insights, and contribute to industry association’s activity for improving HEOR/HTA/pricing environment
    • Establish good working relations with Global/Area Market Access/HEOR

Skills & Abilities:

  • Leadership, Strategic and Collaboration mindset of sharing skills and experiences proactively so that the best results can be learned as a team, and of providing necessary support beyond the framework of the team.
  • Agile thinking with flexible open mind
  • Logical thinking/writing to claim a strategy or position with the regulatory agency and key external stakeholders
  • Basic knowledge on medical care systems and policies
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and the regulatory and access environment
  • Excellent communication in English; working knowledge in Japanese (More than 750 points of TOEIC or ability of communicating with Global team smoothly)
  • Good fit with the ways we work

Education/Experience Required:

  • At least 3-year of health economics, epidemiology/real world research, medical affairs, clinical trial, or biostatistics experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Contract Research Organization, Academic institution or Consulting company
  • Experience in HEOR (health economics and outcomes research) and its publication in English at a peer-reviewed journal in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred
  • Undergraduate degree in science or pharmaceutical science
  • Master’s degree in science or public health, or PhD is preferred
