The Veterinary Technician carries out daily activities in the vivarium and provides clinical nursing care and research support for lab animals. Contributes to specific projects in support of Comparative Medicine initiatives. Provides exemplary animal care. Adheres to all department and AbbVie regulatory expectations, as well as USDA and FDA regulations. Provides veterinary care in support of the AbbVie drug discovery and development process.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts routine veterinary nursing care.
- Understands husbandry and facility practices.
- Provides anesthesia support under supervision for procedures including surgery, dental prophylaxis, and imaging procedures.
- Conducts routine diagnostic procedures.
- Observes, collects, and records a variety of data in support of study goals or veterinary care.
- Documents in medical records, GLP forms, etc. Maintains appropriate documentation, handling, and archiving of data, as required by research, veterinary procedures and/or regulatory guidelines.
- Provides basic level technical training.
- Adheres to safety guidelines.
- Routine maintenance of veterinary labs area.
- Applies basic computer skills including but not limited to, email, calendar, computer-based training modules, and data entry.
- Works in compliance of all applicable local, federal, GLP, FDA, and USDA regulations.
Qualifications:
Education/ Certifications
- AS/BS degree with 0-4+ years of clinical experience.
- CVT required.
- AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level preferred.
Abilities
- Basic proficiency in veterinary technical skillset.
- Ability to work with multiple lab animal species.
- Ability to work in compliance with all local, federal, GLP, FDA, USDA regulations.
- Attention to detail.
- Commitment to animal welfare.
- Ability to work with a team or independently to solve problems.
- Good communication skills with both internal staff and those external of the department.
- Ability to consistently perform in accordance with AbbVie leadership behaviors and attributes.
- Ability to safely lift 50 pounds, consistently stand and walk for extended periods of time, to include walking and adhering to safety rules and expectations including but not limited to: grasping, squeezing, pushing, pulling, squatting, stooping, and bending.
- Able to work independently on a rotating schedule which includes mandatory weekend coverage and holiday coverage.
- Excellent attendance is expected.
Position will be hired based on level of experience.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
