Job Description

The Global Compound Logistics and Operations organization (GCLO) within AbbVie manages the inventory, dispersal and logistics of biological and chemical entities used by Discovery and Development scientists for all aspects of AbbVie drug discovery. 

AbbVie is seeking a motivated individual to fill the Laboratory Technician role in the GCLO Dispensing Lab. This position would be directly responsible for the weighing and solvating of R&D small molecule compounds for both order fulfilment and inventory management purposes. The successful candidate will be expected to be proficient at maintaining a high level of concentration and attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks. Capability to work with and troubleshoot laboratory automation is a plus.

This role requires full time on-site (5 days). No opportunity for remote or hybrid work.

Responsibilities:

  • High output massing of compounds on precision balance equipment
  • Solvating and plating of research materials using automated liquid handlers
  • Receiving and stocking of laboratory supplies
  • Disposal of laboratory waste products
  • Participate in writing of SOPs and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Significant work activities and conditions:
    • Working with potentially hazardous materials, PPE is required
    • Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day)
    • Able to lift 25 pounds

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School/GED is required and at least 5 years prior technical experience in area(s) of specialty
  • 5+ years of experience in compound management
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and multi-task within an environment of shifting deadlines and demands.
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques and practices
  • Key leadership competencies:
    • Learn fast, grasp the "essence" of the task at hand, and can change course quickly where necessary
    • Raises the bar and is never satisfied with the status quo
    • Open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement
    • Embraces the ideas of others, nurtures innovation and manages innovation to reality
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work within a team environment

 Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with a wide range of automated liquid handlers.
  • Experience in laboratory robotics operation
  • Accustomed to spending extended periods of time working in a fume hood or balance enclosure
  • Familiarity with chemical inventory information systems, and databases
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work independently and within a team setting
