The Energy & Sustainability Lead is responsible for driving the site’s energy and sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with AbbVie’s corporate and site goals. The role leads the development and delivery of strategic projects, identifies innovative technical solutions, builds robust business cases, and ensures compliance with Quality, Engineering, EHS, Finance, and People policies while supporting continuous improvement and sustainable growth.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead all site Energy Management activities.
- Maintain Energy Management at MHR, Sligo, in compliance with ISO 50001, including preparation for and hosting of external audits.
- Promote energy awareness across the organization.
- Forecast energy demand profiles for the annual Financial Plan and Energy Procurement process. Monitor and report energy performance and cost improvement initiatives to site and corporate stakeholders.
- Prepare the Capital Long-Range Plan (LRP) for energy projects aligned with site and corporate energy strategies.
- Conduct feasibility studies for energy projects and cost improvement opportunities.
- Prepare Requests for Capital Expenditure (RCE) for energy-related projects.
- Manage assigned projects in accordance with Project Management Office (PMO) processes, ensuring effective planning, execution, budget control, and completion.
- Collaborate closely with EHS colleagues to plan and safely execute projects while ensuring compliance with all EHS&E standards, procedures, policies, and safe working practices.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project impacts in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Manage and negotiate external contracts and contractor services.
- Partner with internal and external resources to deliver strategic initiatives and business objectives.
- Support Global Engineering and Sustainability teams in delivering key initiatives, projects, and targets.
- Contribute to Global Engineering and EHS forums, including Energy and Engineering eCOPs.
- Ensure the successful delivery of projects through a "Right First Time" approach.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Project Engineer.
- Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Proven experience in Project Management, Energy Management, Energy Projects, Commissioning & Validation, Equipment Reliability, and Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Where We Work
Role is exclusively performed at a site or office and onsite presence is required. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
