The Strategic Initiatives Lead is responsible for driving activities and initiatives that enhance the differentiation of AbbVie’s products within a particular therapeutic area, positioning them ahead of competitors. This role focuses on identifying and developing innovative initiatives in close collaboration with customers—including a special emphasis on External Experts (EEs)—to elevate treatment ambitions and improve the Standard of Care for patients within the relevant disease area.
Key responsibilities include recognizing barriers to advancing patient care and implementing targeted strategies and tactics to overcome them. As a pivotal member of our team, the Strategic Initiatives Lead combines strategic vision with strong execution skills, ensuring that initiatives are effectively delivered in the field.
The Strategic Initiatives Lead works closely with the Brand Manager, Sales Manager, Medical advisor and in-field colleagues, and other stakeholders to identify needs within prioritized accounts and regions. The role also takes a leading position in EE management and collaborates across functions to develop and execute key initiatives within vital strategic areas for the therapeutic area.

Highlighted Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the brand manager and act as a contributor in the development of the Strategic brand plan.
- Take a leading role in the development of the tactical plan based on the strategic brand plan and lead the execution of key strategic initiatives in collaboration with the cross-functional team.
- Serve as point of Contact to area/global in projects for which this role is responsible.
- In collaboration with the medical advisor and Account Managers, lead the EE management within the Therapeutic Area. Accountable for a prioritized selection of stakeholders.
- Gather insights, identify needs, challenges, and opportunities, in prioritized accounts for co-creation of projects/initiatives. Work towards a vision of excellence, offering value to our customers.
- Manage projects; define project plans, lead execution, and follow up on relevant KPIs.
- Ensure a favourable perception of AbbVie´s products within the TA vs. competition and offer high qualitative branded activities.
- Ensure an offering of educational activities and initiatives that are perceived as the best within the disease area.
- When identifying a need for tools and materials which could help clinics in improving patient care, ensure development of such, preferrable in collaboration with the customer.
The Strategic Initiatives Lead is a senior role and brings extensive strategic marketing skill and experience, skills in leadership & project management, as well as a successful experience of sales within the pharmaceutical industry, with a network within the Therapeutic Area.
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years experience from relevant roles in life science or health care. Possess strong business acumen and knowledge of the life science sector/ health care and about relevant stakeholders/customers.
- Experience of successful brand management or a similar strategic position within the pharma industry.
- Experience in leading complex projects with diverse stakeholders (internal/ external).
- Strong Leadership skills & Project management skills.
- Manage stakeholders effectively, both internally and externally, using advanced communication, influencing/ negotiation skills, and being able to deal with people at different levels.
- Experience from working within the Therapeutic Area, bringing a network.
- Willingness to undertake travel to external customers.

Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
