Job Description

The Biologics Discovery Sciences group at AbbVie is seeking a highly-motivated scientist to join a dynamic core team supporting biologics drug-discovery.  The role will be focused on purification of bispecifics candidates with suitable purity/characteristics to support advancement into in vitro studies (i.e. drug-like property assays, binding, cell-based assays, etc) and in vivo studies (i.e. efficacy, non-GLP NHP PK, DRF, etc).  The applicant must be proficient in all standard bioprocess and chromatography techniques at large scale (1g- 200g scale).  Responsibilities will include the design and execution of process development strategies necessary to address production liabilities and which factor in future process scalability.  The applicant will need to be an independent and creative problem solver who is proficient in overcoming issues (i.e. solubility, aggregation, recovery, purity) associated with purification of bispecifics candidates.  The role will also require intensive analytical characterization of molecules (end-products/process-intermediates) and extensive analytical methods development to characterize process and product related-impurities. The applicant should have a thorough understanding of how molecular- and post-translational attributes of bispecifics translate to their function.

The applicant should be able to work independently with chromatography software such as Unicorn, Chromeleon and Empower.  She/he needs to stay current with applicable internal/external scientific literature and apply new information in innovative ways to successfully complete work assignments.  The applicant should be able to analyze, document, and report data concisely and rigorously.  She/he should possess excellent communication skills and be proficient in presenting in front of groups.
