The Senior Director will provide senior leadership to create and execute Global Network, Voice and Network Security strategies that support AbbVie business goals. This role owns the end-to-end direction and performance of AbbVie’s Data Network, Voice Network, and Network Security capabilities worldwide, with enterprise-wide impact and influence.
This role will build collaborative partnerships with technology and functional domain vice presidents and key business stakeholders. Lead delivery of secure, reliable, and scalable network services and security controls that address prioritized business problems, support innovation, and enable global growth. Objectives are defined in collaboration with senior AbbVie leadership and results are assessed from a 3–5 year perspective.
Responsibilities
- Global Strategy & Roadmap: Define and lead the 3–5 year global strategy and roadmap for Data Network, Voice Network, and Network Security to enable AbbVie’s business priorities, digital transformation, and growth.
- Network Architecture & Standards: Partner with Enterprise Architecture to establish global reference architectures, engineering standards, and design patterns for LAN/WAN/SD-WAN/Wi-Fi, voice/collaboration, network segmentation, and secure connectivity (including cloud and third-party connectivity.)
- Network Security Leadership: Own network security strategy and execution across the enterprise, including secure network design, perimeter and internal controls, Zero Trust alignment, DDoS protection, secure remote access, and continuous improvement of network security posture in partnership with Cybersecurity/GRC.
- Service Delivery & Operations: Accountable for global availability, performance, resilience, and lifecycle management of network and voice services, including monitoring, incident/problem management, change/release governance, and service quality KPIs/SLAs.
- Risk, Compliance & Resilience: Drive security and regulatory compliance requirements impacting networks (e.g., validated environments, privacy, audit readiness), and lead resiliency planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity for network services worldwide.
- Program & Portfolio Management: Lead global programs and investments (refresh, modernization, site build/expansion, M&A integration, cloud connectivity) ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, budget, and business outcomes.
- Vendor & Financial Management: Direct global vendor strategy and performance for carriers, managed services, hardware/software providers; manage budgets, contracts, and commercial negotiations to optimize cost, risk, and value.
- People Leadership: Build, lead, and develop high-performing global teams (including directors, managers, engineers, and managed service partners) with clear accountability, strong engagement, and a robust succession pipeline.
- Stakeholder Partnership & Influence: Serve as a trusted advisor to business and technology leaders; communicate strategy, tradeoffs, risks, and outcomes; and influence enterprise decisions and operating policies for network and security domains.
- Culture & Ways of Working: Consistently demonstrate AbbVie’s Ways of Working and Leadership Attributes, promoting an enterprise mindset, operational excellence, customer focus, and continuous improvement across global network and security services.
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and 15+ years of experience required.
- Proven ability to effectively connect employee and BTS functional goals to business and/or overall AbbVie goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to drive outstanding employee performance and engagement through developing, coaching, motivating, energizing and inspiring team members.
- Experience managing teams of at least 20 people with a resource mix of managers, employees, matrixed teams, virtual teams, contractors and managed service providers.
- Ability to communicate problems in terms that are understandable to all levels of the organization, including C-Suite.
- Thought leader for AbbVie in their business and technology domain(s).
- Experiencing managing a budget of at least $20 million.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree and work experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred. Will consider 19 years of relevant experience in related technical field.
- Experience in technology operation, strategy, planning and implementation and/or relevant business domain is preferred.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

Pay Range: $
206500 - 393000 USD
Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
