Moving mountains together – as Software Developer / Senior Scientist I for Laboratory Automation (Robotics Applications) (all genders) (full-time,permanent)

Become part of a team that is driving the automation initiative in the R&D environment at AbbVie both locally and globally. As an innovative biopharma company, we are undergoing a transformation towards Laboratory 4.0. We analyze our processes and develop ways to increase efficiency, quality, and reliability through laboratory and process automation. We are looking for an innovative and self-driven employee who will support us on this path with profound and extensive programming skills and an understanding of laboratory processes.

Job Profile:

  • Independent development of applications in the field of data handling, integration of systems and databases (ELN, LIMS), control of devices, and user interfaces (custom automation)
  • Independent implementation of highly complex automation solutions and responsible execution of proof-of-concepts (POC) within various departments
  • Process analysis and screening of workflows to identify automation possibilities as well as their conception, realization, and documentation
  • Leading participation in initiatives to improve automation processes within AbbVie
  • Taking interface responsibility between our automation group and our Information Research (IR) group located in internal IT

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Senior Scientist I: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically, 10 years of experience, master’s degree or equivalent education (Master's, Engineering) in the field of bioinformatics, IT, or a related field, or a technical education or scientific studies with corresponding programming knowledge and/or automation experience and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no (some) experience necessary.
  • Senior Scientist II: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically, 12 years of experience, master’s degree or equivalent education (Master's, Engineering) in the field of bioinformatics, IT, or a related field, or a technical education or scientific studies with corresponding programming knowledge and/or automation experience and typically 10 years of experience, PhD and typically 4 years of experience.
  • Excellent programming skills and agile software development (C#, C++ and/or Python)

 

Advantageous/Not a must:

  • Experience in application development focusing on data transformation and AI
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio and Git
  • Experience in laboratory automation, LIMS, and ELN
  • Experience with driver development and API interfaces
  • Basic understanding of laboratory workflows and processes in pharmaceutical development
  • Experience with processes and requirements in regulated environments

Soft Skills:

  • Good teamwork skills for working in international, interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and IT specialists
  • Willingness to adapt to changing environments and situations with multiple projects
  • Very good English skills, both spoken and written, to present and report results
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility
  • Structured and self-organized work with corresponding documentation
  • Openness to a rapidly changing environment with many challenges
