Job Description

The Precision Medicine organization within AbbVie is committed to driving translational research and clinical biomarker strategy for our pre-clinical and clinical stage programs. The Precision Medicne Pathology group within Precision Medicine supports projects from discovery through CDx assay development.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Scientist with a strong scientific background and a passion for biomarker research to join this dynamic team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment and will participate as a member of cross-functional interdisciplinary teams. The candidate is expected to design and execute novel tissue-based assay development experiments independently to enhance our biomarker research.

 

 

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

 

·        Independently design, validate, and implement novel tissue-based assays for individual projects and therapeutic programs with a key responsibility to ensure delivery of highly specific and robust assays to meet project timelines.

 

 

·        Supports general pathology needs of project teams through design and implementation of hypothesis-driven studies utilizing tissue based assays.

 

 

·        Acts as a subject matter expert and resource for the evaluation and implementation of tissue based assay technologies, including multiplexing and digital pathology image analysis.

 

 

·        Works in cross-functional teams and contributes scientific insights to individual programs.

 

 

·        Collaborates with pathologists and digital pathology scientists to support image analysis projects.

Significant Work Activities -Continuous standing for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)

 


Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

·        Bachelor’s degree in Cancer Biology Cell Biology, Physiology, or related field with 10+ years of related work; Master’s Degree with 8 years of related work; PhD with no industry experience

 

 

·        Strong hands-on experience in singleplex and multiplex immunohistochemistry (IHC) assay development and other tissue-based assays including immunofluorescence (IF) and in-situ hybridization (ISH) is required.

 

 

·        Experience with IHC staining platforms (Ventana, Leica Bond Rx, and Dako) and slide scanners (Leica) is preferred.

 

 

·        Close familiarity with tissue microscopic anatomy and histology (normal and diseased)

 

 

·        Experience with quantitative image analysis software tools (HALO, Visiopharm) is preferred.

 

 

·        High level of initiative, motivation, and ability to work independently.

 

 

·        Demonstrated ability to independently conduct experiments and summarize data in a clear and concise manner.

 

 

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

 

Must be able to multi-task and work effectively within a cross-functional team
