The Process Chemistry in the Small Molecule API (SMAPI) division is responsible for the scale-up of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) for the use in preclinical and early clinical studies. The Radiochemistry group is a part of Process Chemistry and is responsible for preparing API with long half-life beta emitting labels to enable screening assays and metabolism studies to further the development of drug products. Training in both process chemistry and radiochemistry is required.
The Senior Scientist I/II Chemistry position has these key responsibilities:
- Responsible for project science within their area of expertise on project teams. Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.
- Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific conferences. Effective writer and communicator of research or other regulatory materials. Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual projects as well as the overall program. Seize opportunities to pursue project relevant leads that are in line with the group’s strategy.
- Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting.
- Adheres to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, quality, and appropriate handling of materials.
- Keep accurate and current records of research and/or project-related documents according to AbbVie policies.
- Staying current with the industry and field. Act as advocate to integrate this knowledge into the group’s research efforts. Generate new research or development strategies to effectively address project and divisional goals/needs. Collaborate with functional and technical experts to facilitate scientific achievement.
- Show flexibility in providing support in Process Chemistry and Radiochemistry group as project demands require.
- A PhD in organic chemistry and 0-3 years of experience; MS in organic chemistry and 10 years of experience
- Demonstrate ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.
- Effective writer and communicator of research or other regulatory materials required.
- Ability to seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual projects as well as the overall program.
Preferred:
- Experience with the use and handling of radioactive materials (Beta emitters).

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
