The Ophthalmology Discovery group at AbbVie is seeking a Senior Scientist I responsible for developing, characterizing, and analyzing sequencing data from pre-clinical in-vitro models of dry age-related macular degeneration (dAMD). The successful candidate should be able to work independently developing stress based in-vitro models using a variety of RPE cell lines to assess dAMD relevant pathways. S/he should have experience with RNA sequencing and develop a systems biology-based approach to create network analysis. Additionally, s/he will be responsible for data collection along with the interpretation and reporting of results to the ophthalmology group.
This individual is expected to consult and share ideas with other scientists in R&D and to create analysis techniques that can be used across the ophthalmology therapeutic area. S/he may serve as a representative to describe the approach to subgroups within the organization. S/he may also be required to train and supervise junior staff members.
Experience in RNA sequencing, systems biology, and omics analysis is required. Experience culturing ARPE19 and iPSCRPE cells in the context of dAMD is essential. Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with peers in multidiscipline programs or project teams and to advise and consult with other scientists in R&D.
S/he should be highly motivated, with a record of innovation. Emphasis is on the ability to work independently in the lab and function effectively in a matrixed organizational structure.
