Job Description:
AbbVie’s Discovery Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine (BGM) group is seeking a highly motivated scientist to join its cross-functional Protein Sciences Analytics Team. This team drives innovation by developing and engineering innovative biologic and genetic medicine therapies across AbbVie’s pipeline. We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in studying lipid and protein structure, function, and dynamics in biological systems, utilizing advanced analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry and chromatography. The successful candidate will be skilled in lipid quantification, identification, sample preparation, data analysis, and documentation of research findings. Key Responsibilities:
- Design, conduct and optimize experiments to analyze lipid profiles in various biological samples; develop and optimize lipid extraction protocols from different biological sources.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in mass spectrometry and chromatography related to lipidomics; familiarity of metabolomics and proteomics is desirable but not required.
- Analyze and interpret lipidomics datasets using commercial and custom software tools; integrate findings with multi-omics datasets.
- Address key project challenges by leveraging analytical tools, scientific information, and technical expertise.
- Strategically advancing projects, providing expert opinions and collaborating with peers and stakeholders in multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to research, leading to peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and external presentations.
Key Qualifications:
- Senior Scientist I: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically, 10 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no experience necessary.
- Senior Scientist II: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically, 12 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, PhD and typically 4 years of experience.
- Demonstrated research excellence, evidenced by a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and scientific achievements.
- Robust analytical expertise, including proficiency in mass spectrometry, various chromatographic techniques, capillary electrophoresis methodologies, and in-depth biophysical characterization.
