The Senior MSL Oncology (Solid Tumors) serves to advance science and standards of care for patients, healthcare providers and payers, and ensures they can access all the practical and clinically relevant information and solutions they need to use AbbVie’s products efficiently and safely.
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Oncology (Solid Tumors) is a key member of the affiliate Medical department. This role has increased scope and responsibilities, performing part of tasks of a Medical Advisor. It focuses on medical and scientific engagement with AbbVie stakeholders (including research and healthcare professionals, payers, and providers). The Senior MSL works to communicate information and facilitate dialogue about AbbVie’s marketed products, and compounds in development, in a strictly scientific, non-promotional manner, and in full compliance with applicable national laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie’s policies and procedures and accepted standards of best practice.
Responsibilities
- Develop in-depth knowledge of assigned products and relevant therapeutic areas through training, participation in congresses/seminars, and self-study of international literature.
- Establish professional credible relationships with key thought leaders/ external experts and academic centers by participating in scientific congresses, coordinating advisory boards, and round-table meetings.
- Serve as a point of contact to ensure a strong medical and scientific presence for AbbVie in key academic and non-academic centers by facilitation of research and educational initiatives, while supporting external requests for medical and scientific information on products or areas of therapeutic interest.
- Support internal teams (e.g. sales, marketing and Brand Team members) to develop their scientific and technical expertise through the delivery of presentations using up-to-date publications.
- Assist in the initiation, oversight and follow up of assigned clinical studies and medical projects within the therapeutic area for which the MSL carries responsibility (e.g. post marketing clinical activities such as registry/database projects, epidemiological surveys, post-authorization studies (phase IV).
- Deliver credible presentations on scientific matters to physicians, individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.), where requested, but with the focus on External Experts.
- Identify and participate in the selection process of qualified thought leaders, who could engage with the Company in collaborative efforts, such as: research collaborations, educational and advisory roles (Advisory Boards, Congresses, Symposia, etc.) while ensuring a high level of scientific and educational integrity.
- Attend scientific meetings and Conferences. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop summaries of key data and other scientifically relevant information to inform AbbVie strategic priorities and initiatives.
- Traveling is required, as per business needs.
Knowledge & Experience
- Advanced University degree in Life sciences (MD, PharmD or PhD in Oncology field).
- 2 years of strong clinical background including medical affairs experience in a biopharma or pharma environment with significant time in in-field customer-facing role, is preferred.
- Prior experience with Ovarian Cancer Therapeutic Area and/or with Biomarkers-driven therapeutic approaches will be considered an asset.
- Solid knowledge of the pharmaceutical environment and the role of Medical Affairs to advance medical and scientific objectives.
- Demonstrated expertise in the scientific methods applied to clinical research and current legislative/regulatory controls applicable to this research.

- Ability to comprehensively learn about new subject areas and environments, showing curiosity and an authentic interest in keeping up with new scientific developments.
- Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other in-field members, maintaining independence and showcasing Project Management capabilities, i.e. adaptability, strong time management and task prioritization skills.
- Excellent written and spoken communication/ presentation skills, with an ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with thought leaders, physicians and other healthcare decision makers, showcasing a high customer orientation
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially PowerPoint.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
