AbbVie is seeking a dynamic and dedicated professional to manage External Scientific Engagement Initiatives across the US West Coast, and Internal Scientific Engagement initiatives in the San Francisco Bay Area. This key role involves strategic planning, relationship building, and operational leadership to strengthen AbbVie's internal and external scientific engagement and collaboration in this global Biotech and AI innovation hub.
Key Responsibilities
External Scientific Engagement:
- Collaborate cross-functionally with AbbVie Ventures, Business Development, and R&D to ensure top US West Coast Incubators, accelerators, leading startups, top universities, scientists, and professors understand AbbVie’s areas of strategic interest and position AbbVie as a partner of choice.
- Ensure AbbVie is well represented at key innovation events and forums throughout the West Coast.
- Support the organization of the AbbVie West Coast Partnering Day, Startup Competitions (e.g. Golden Tickets, etc.) and other external innovation and scientific engagement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of promising West Coast startups, leaders, scientists, and key industry and scientific events in the region.
Internal Scientific Engagement:
- Partner with AbbVie scientific leaders and scientists and event planning teams to design and implement engaging internal scientific events at AbbVie Bay Area (ABA).
- e.g. Bay Area Celebration of Science, Scientific Presentations, Scientific Symposiums, hackathons, etc.
- Partner with scientific leaders and scientist across sites to ensure ABA based employees are actively participating in AbbVie companywide scientific meetings and events.
- e.g. AbbVie Celebration of Science, R&D Pathway to Cures, etc.
- Partners with Lab Leaders, Managers and scientists to strengthen scientific engagement, collaboration and increase awareness of the science and projects being advanced across the different lab functions at ABA.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of promising R&D programs and marketing therapies being advanced by employees at ABA and key contributors.
- Develop and lead strategic initiatives to enhance internal scientific engagement and cross functional scientific collaborations.
- Bachelor Science degree in a relevant health, scientific or engineering field required. Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, or Master's) preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, including work with Discovery, pre-clinical-translational sciences and/or early drug development.
- Proven experience in external engagement and managing collaborations.
- Strong project management, interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
- Ability and flexibility to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and apply learnings to new situations.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

Pay Range: $
121000 - 230000 USD
Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
