Reporting to the Region Counsel, Region North
Position Overview:
Working with the Region Counsel, the role will provide direct country legal support for Scandinavia with a specific focus on Sweden, Denmark and Iceland. The individual will also be part of the management team in Scandinavia and play a leadership role in that forum bringing legal expertise and support on business and culture related matters.
As a strategic business partner, the individual will focus on continuously building an effective legal support function addressing the most pressing legal and external environment challenges and driving/protecting the business in a proactive and creative way.
Highlighted Responsibilities:
- Provision of legal advice and support focused on business-oriented solutions on a wide range of matters to colleagues in Scandinavia with a specific focus on Sweden, Denmark and Iceland. Such matters include legal market access issues, medicines tendering, competition law (e.g., supply/distribution related issues), procurement law, pharmaceutical law/advertising, commercial law and general risk management (e.g., ABAC).
- The role will require the negotiation and preparation of an extensive range of agreements and, in some cases, negotiations with payors. The individual will need to resolve legal issues using negotiation skills and legal expertise.
- Monitor and proactively address with cross functional partners including GM, Government Affairs and Market Access changes in laws and the external environment that affect the business. For example, the dynamic in Denmark created by the US Most Favored Nation pricing policy (MFN). This part of the role will include driving AbbVie’s objectives at the Legal Committee of the LIF in Sweden and support creation of a legal committee in LIF Denmark.
- Devise legal strategy and support in cross functional meetings including MLOR meetings (Medical/Legal/OEC/Regulatory).
- Provide training on new developments and key legal topics of importance. Develop practical checklists and working tools for the business to facilitate their work.
- Represent AbbVie externally to customers, suppliers, wholesalers, competitors, government agencies.
- To the extent that complex problems or specific technical expertise is required, select and direct the work of outside counsel.
- Continuously develop a solid knowledge of AbbVie´s business and organization and knowledge of the broader business impact of decisions made.
- Lawyer qualified in Sweden or Denmark.
- Law school degree.
- At least 6 years of professional legal expertise, preferably in an international environment, ideally at a law firm and/or multi-national company.
- Experience in supporting senior business leaders.
- Deep understanding of Scandinavia market and culture.
- Highly motivated, flexible, independent with capability to manage people and take initiative. Strong integrity, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage workload across the team and with outside counsel where needed.
- Solution-oriented, with ability to proactively identify solutions to complex legal and business challenges.
- Based in Sweden.
- Prepared to travel to Denmark and other RN markets as required.
- Fluent in English.

Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
