This person will play a leadership role in building and executing the integrate brand strategy across the Oncology Franchise assets including existing brands in CLL, Ovarian, DLBCL and NSCL Disease areas and future markets of Multiple Myeloma and Renal Cell Carcinoma.   Strong Leadership and ability to work across a complicated matrix is required as the cross functional partner for the Oncology BU supporting Managed Care, HEOR, Government Affairs, Global Marketing, Medical and Finance.   This position will play a significant role in all strategic decision making around market access in support of our Oncology Portfolio.

 

  • Strategy Lead on all existing and future assets – Support Pipeline Commercialization Strategy (PCS), Integrated Business Team (IBT), and ABT’s to ensure strong alignment across key functions within Oncology Market Access (OMA) that interact with the following, including GA , APEX, Medical, Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR), and the broader US Market Access (USMAx ) organizations.  This will include launching new products with a singular launch indication and inline approvals of expanded indications.
  • Financial Governance – Contribute to the AbbVie Financial Process (LRP’s, LBE’s) in close collaboration with finance, brand, forecasting, Business Development and Licensing, and Global Commercialization in Oncology.  Serve as the SME to align on key assumptions while collaborating with finance on modeling current and future year performance and GTN assumptions that are impacted by contracting within MA customer base from Trade, Group Practice Organizations (GPOs), and Specialty Pharmacies. OMA Market Access GM will also be responsible to manage the overall budgets that support each franchise and the SG&A responsibilities associated with the organizations personnel.
  • Launch and Promotional Execution – Lead external consultation with APEX and external stakeholders to understand timelines to accomplish tasks such as pricing assumptions, and any potential barriers that would impact launch timelines or current brand performance from a competitive landscape.   Organize team to manage promotional materials across all channels working closely with the advertising agencies account teams to create meaningful Value Props and Budget Impact Models that provide the best opportunity for positive placement on coverage policies and formulary placement
  • Lead Oncology Market Access Strategic Channel Management Success: Serve as the ultimate owner of the market access strategy and performance success for the Strategic Channel Management that supports Payers, GPO’s, Oncology Specialty Distributors, and Specialty Pharmacies.   This would also include Government Accounts (Federal/Kaiser contracting, Federal Regional, and Medicaid), Medical Policy & Strategy, Health System Strategy & Alliances, and Community Oncology supported by the OMAAT account teams, ensuring account performance goals and Business Unit aligned access goals are met or exceeded.
  • Manage the “Go to Market” strategy for complex Oncology Account Matrix: Provide strategic vision and comprehensive performance management for the entire organization inclusive of the GPO and OMAAT Teams in the Oncology Ecosystem which includes Community Practices, Integrated and Academic Health Systems, and the VA and Federal markets. Drive excellence across a diverse and complex mix of market access channels to achieve superior outcomes and foster robust internal and external stakeholder partnership at Sr./Executive levels while building and staffing a team with the expertise to drive excellence in execution.
  • Strategic Channel Planning: Work in collaboration with the Payer and Channel Strategy teams to develop and implement tailored strategies for each Channel customer influencers (e.g., VA, DoD, Medicaid, Kaiser, Medicare Administrators – MACs, Healthsystems and Jumbo Employers and Coalitions),at a national level. Ensure effective collaboration and hand-off with Area Teams to support seamless execution and pull-through of these strategies, maintaining full accountability for field marketing performance and impact.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Expertise:  Lead and empower the team as the area-wide authority on customer segments, market trends, and payer landscapes across all channels. Ensure the team is equipped with resources to develop actionable insights, tools, and guidance to effectively execute comprehensive strategies that drive success and performance throughout the US market.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Manage and cultivate senior-level, cross-functional relationships within Market Access and across the broader Commercial organization, including executive leaders from Centers of Excellence, Area Account teams, Corporate/National Accounts, Brand Business Units, MAx leadership, and AbbVie Commercial Executives. Provide strategic direction and alignment to drive cohesive strategy development, optimal resource allocation, and timely resolution of critical business issues at the executive level.
  • Analytics & Decision-Making: Oversee the area relationship from Oncology APEX Team and other analytics teams to shape data-driven decisions, refine account management tools, and optimize tooling for area field execution.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify best practices, share learnings with cross-functional teams, and proactively recommend process or strategic enhancements to advance AbbVie’s market access objectives.
  • Business Growth & Innovation: Identify new opportunities within the Oncology Marketplace, recommending driving initiatives to expand access, deepen customer relationships, and promote AbbVie’s portfolio. Stay informed of industry trends and competitor activity to adapt strategies as needed.
  • Performance Accountability: Own area performance strategy and pull-through, managing data and analytics tools to ensure structures and resources are in place for optimal Strategic Channel Account Execution for appropriate placement of 6 in market assets that will soon be 8 over the next two years.
  • Driving Abbvie Culture – Support OMA by driving on our culture initiatives relative to the cornerstone areas of Making Real Possible, All for One Abbvie, Clear and Courageous, Agile and Accountable, and Decide Smart and Sure.
  • Alliance Management – Responsible for managing the firewall requirements as set forth in the co-marketing relationships with Alliance Management with Imbruvica and JBI, and Venclexta and Genentech.   This includes but is not limited to insuring that all communications are managed appropriately to support the compliant delivery of financial requirements of each asset independent of one another into the Oncology Channel

 

Significant Work Activities:

  • Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day)
  • Located in the Chicago office in a hybrid work environment with required ABBV1 office time (Tu to Th) when not traveling.
  • Required travel approximately 25% of the time

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • >12 years Sales management experience, or equivalent C-suite account management experience preferred
  • >10 Sales and/or Marketing related focus experience
  • >3 years of Market Access Experience
  • >12 total combined years of health care industry experience
  • Proven management experience leading teams or managing direct reports in a complex, matrixed environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred (e.g., MBA, MPH, or PharmD)
  • Deep understanding of regional payer systems, healthcare policy, and key oncology stakeholders.
  • Ability to foster cross-functional collaborations and effectively influence senior leadership.
  • Positive, solutions-oriented attitude with a track record of problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen to drive data-informed decisions.
