Job Description

The Sr. Director, GD&C SMO reports to the VP, Global Distribution & Central Services and is a key member of the GD&C Leadership Team. The role leads strategic initiatives horizontally across GD&C functions and at times across Global Supply Chain and/or Operations functions, and is responsible for the global business process, supply chain and global logistics strategy CoE's, global traceability and business services teams. Scope includes project portfolio management, business process office, strategic operations/finance, learning and engagement, supply chain technology solutions, training and compliance and GD&C partnerships management. The role is transition lead for GD&C including ATO work. The role leads to the development and execution of global resource strategies for GD&C, including strategic outsourcing.

The GD&C SMO is a function within the GD&C organization, and performs strategy development, strategy execution and monitoring activities that drive the GD&C mission/vision, impacting the entire GD&C and at times the Global Supply Chain and Operations organization.

  • Orchestrates the development of well-integrated global strategies, and the execution and measurement of strategies that drive the GD&C, Supply Chain and Operations vision/mission and value creation.
  • Responsible for the development, design, operation, and improvement of the cross-functional processes that enable GD&C services deliver against business objectives.
  • Leadership/line management of office of the  business process, supply chain office, global logistics strategy Coe team and global traceability and business services teams. (~N= 72 professionals and people leaders.)
  • Manages organizational change and transformation in order to improve organizational effectiveness and evolve the safety organization.
  • Designs and implements control systems and metrics to ensure efficient, effective, high quality, and timely GD&C deliverables. Ensure thoughtful, data-driven decisions on resource allocation, process and quality improvement in GD&C.
  • Alignment and execution of both internal and cross-functional initiatives supporting business critical objectives and vision and strategy within and across GD&C sub-functions.
  • Ownership and strategic management of GD&C budget and Headcount resources to create internal efficiencies that support the development of new GD&C capabilities
  • Accountable for global resource strategies for GD&C, including strategic outsourcing, resource management objectives, roadmap and key performance indicators to ensure GD&C resourcing engagements are aligned to overall business objectives driving business deliverables.
  • Accountable for driving efficiencies and compliance in the execution of GD&C agreements.
  • Accountable for driving readiness activities to prepare for inspections and audits as well as leading responses to pre-audit requests. Accountable for hard wiring quality, agility and consistency in safety deliverables and across the global GD&C system.
  • Provides strategic direction for driving transformational change in the way AbbVie conducts its Global Distribution & Central Services operational and strategic programs in order to drive continuous improvement in operational excellence and compliance with a focus on developing the appropriate future capabilities to help AbbVie achieve a recognized leadership position in the industry.
  •  Proactive in engaging, inspiring, coaching and development of internal team and support of GD&C leadership and culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management or related field required.
  • 8-12 years of experience in operations and supply chain management, logistics network optimization.
  • Expertise in distribution and logistics processes in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry.
  • 7-10 years of experience in change management, business transformation, operational strategy creation / implementation.
  • Proven track record for leading complex global processes and initiatives
  • Experience in leadership roles related to standard business procedures including portfolio management review, finance, budgeting, compliance and quality/regulatory matters preferred. International or local regulatory/QA knowledge preferred.
