The Computational Toxicology group is dedicated to advancing in-silico methods that enhance the prediction and understanding of safety and toxicology for both small and large molecules. The Senior Data Scientist will work with diverse biology-related datasets, ranging from pharmacology, toxicology, pathology, genomics, and chemistry, applying data science and machine learning techniques. The primary goal of this role is to leverage data effectively and identify useful insights. This role focuses on leveraging bioinformatics expertise to process and analyze biological datasets for predictive modeling and novel safety-related discoveries.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with research teams and data scientists to design and implement bioinformatics-driven data analysis strategies, utilizing machine learning/AI methods to support discovery and preclinical safety studies. Applications include, but are not limited to, transcriptomics, pharmacogenomics, in vitro/in vivo safety data, histopathology image analysis, and molecular data integration.
- Identify, curate, and process internal and external biology and safety-related datasets. Apply data science methodologies to harmonize and analyze complex datasets, uncovering associations that inform safety assessments.
- Develop predictive models, analytical tools, and intuitive user interfaces to translate computational findings into actionable insights, enabling safety risk prediction.
- Communicate results and methods clearly to both scientific and non-technical audiences, ensuring effective knowledge transfer across teams.
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no experience necessary.
- Proficiency in bioinformatics and data science tools, with expertise in Python and R for data analysis and model development.
- Experience in statistical learning and/or methods, such as hypothesis testing, Bayesian inference, time-series analysis, and multivariate analysis, particularly applied to biological datasets.
- Expertise in data preprocessing techniques, including dimensionality reduction, normalization, standardization, and missing data imputation for high-dimensional biology datasets.
- Experience with data engineering and experience with databasing, computing clusters, and cloud computing.
- Understanding of machine learning techniques, including supervised/unsupervised learning, clustering, classification algorithms (e.g., SVMs, random forests, deep learning), and predictive modeling.
Preferred:
- Industry experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech sector.
- Experience with advanced AI techniques, such as generative models (e.g., GANs, VAEs) and large language models (LLMs.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics databases and tools and how to integrate these resources with in-house data for hypothesis generation and mechanistic insights.
- Familiarity with omics data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, proteomics), data integration across multi-omics platforms, and biological network analysis.
