Job Description

AbbVie’s Europe Area Team is seeking a Senior AI Leader to play a pivotal role in advancing AI-enabled transformation across the region. This leader will serve as a strategic connector across business priorities, technology capabilities, and innovation opportunities to accelerate the adoption of AI solutions that deliver measurable business value.

This role is responsible for shaping and advancing high-impact AI opportunities from business case development through proof of concept, while ensuring strong prioritization, governance, and alignment with AbbVie’s strategic priorities and Golden Metrics. The individual will also lead change management and process transformation efforts at the area level, with a strong focus on value realization and sustainable adoption.

Reporting to the regional Commercial Head, this leader will operate in a highly matrixed environment and influence senior stakeholders across functions, geographies, and organizational levels. The role also includes responsibility for team leadership and budget management, requiring a high degree of accountability, initiative, and independent leadership.

This role can be based anywhere in Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the identification, assessment, prioritization, and governance of AI and innovation opportunities across the Europe Area.
  • Partner with business leaders to translate ideas and unmet needs into clear business cases and scalable AI opportunities.
  • Advance prioritized initiatives from concept through proof of concept, ensuring alignment to strategic priorities and value potential.
  • Ensure governance and prioritization decisions are aligned with AbbVie’s Golden Metrics and broader business objectives.
  • Define and support approaches to measure business value, establish baselines, and track outcomes over time.
  • Drive change management efforts to support adoption of new tools, processes, and ways of working.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, reimagine, and improve area-level business processes through AI and automation.
  • Build strong partnerships and align senior stakeholders across commercial, digital, data, medical, operations, and regional/global teams.
  • Influence effectively across a complex matrix organization using sound judgment, credibility, and collaboration.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team aligned to strategic priorities.
  • Manage budget and resource allocation to support delivery of high-value initiatives.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Significant leadership experience in AI, digital transformation, innovation, analytics, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into scalable technology and data solutions that deliver measurable value.
  • Proven success leading cross-functional initiatives in complex, global, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong track record in business case development, portfolio prioritization, and value realization.
  • Experience leading teams, managing budgets, and building capability.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills across senior leaders and functions.
  • Strong strategic thinking and commercial acumen, with the ability to balance innovation and business priorities.
  • Demonstrated success leading transformation, change, and adoption for sustainable impact.
  • Ability to operate with accountability, autonomy, and initiative in ambiguous environments.
  • Experience in pharma, healthcare, or another highly regulated industry preferred.
