Job Description

Purpose: 

The Manufacturing Manager oversees all phases of the production operations within North Chicago API Pilot Plant. The position oversees planning and scheduling department activities, and providing leadership in managing the systems, equipment, people and materials. The incumbent is responsible for the achievement of the established goals for productivity, safety, quality and culture, while ensuring all policies, procedures and specifications are followed.  

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate and organize the work of the operating personnel to achieve the plant's product throughput to meet R&D pipeline needs and priorities.  Keep labor hours, raw materials, equipment, and utilities usage within approved budget. 

 

  • Supervise operating personnel to assure that required manufacturing cGMP and Safety procedures are followed and the operating personnel are trained in all the applicable and required procedures and Company policies.  Evaluate performance of operating personnel and commend or correct individuals, as the need arises.  Interview and hire new manufacturing technicians. 

 

  • Responsible for compliance within regulatory agencies' requirements (FDA, EQB, OSHA) as well as AbbVie Corporate and Divisional policies.  Maintain overall good employee morale but at the same time manage to meet stricter Safety, Quality and Productivity Plant Goals. 

 

  • Maintains a cooperative and supportive relationship with other functions within the API Pilot Plant and other plant support functional areas.  Maintains a running inventory balance of materials used for production.  Executes special projects dealing with the resolution of Manufacturing Department problems or with problems related to other departments 

 

  • Lead and participate in projects related to cost reduction, yield improvements, energy conservation, product quality, safety and industrial hygiene to improve overall operations 

 

  • Establishes individual objectives in accordance to Plant and Divisional goals and reviews them accordingly.  In conjunction with the Human Resources Department, recommends both disciplinary action and advancement of department personnel.  Assures that operations in his/her department are performed safely and effectively to minimize employee health hazards, from both a Safety and Industrial Hygiene standpoint.

 

  • Directs subordinates to assure accurate skills and optimum output of production quantities within the manufacturing cost parameters.  Coordinates work regularly between other Production Sections, Tech Ops, Planning, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety areas. 

 

  • Assure that product is manufactured following approved Plant Division, Corporate, and Government regulations.  Assure the deviation from approved procedures are documented and investigated.  Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent deviation recurrence.  Assure that manufacturing facilities and equipment are maintained in condition that will comply with Government and Company regulations.  Assure all products are manufactured following all applicable SOP and Manufacturing Instructions. 

 

  • Responsible to meet quality performance and cost standards for work done in the department and the overall equipment efficiency program.   Reviews and approves these standards. 

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • List required and preferred qualifications (up to 10). Include education, skills and experience. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent negotiation and leadership skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Bachelor’s in engineering or science with 8+ years or Master with 5 + years of pharmaceutical manufacturing experience. Prior people leader experience strongly preferred.  
  • Knowledge and experience working with GMPs 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as high level of interpersonal, negotiation and leadership skills. 
  • Grade level will be commensurate with experience.

  • This job is eligible to participate in our long-term incentive programs.
