The Biotherapeutics and Genetics Medicine department within Discovery Research is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join the Molecular Core team at AbbVie Bioresearch Center (ABC). The ABC site, based in Worcester, MA, offers the unique setting where Biotherapeutics discovery, development and manufacturing coexist in one location. The Molecular Core interacts with multidisciplinary groups across AbbVie focused on developing therapies for Immunology, Neurology and Oncology diseases. We utilize innovative approaches and best-in-class platforms to enable successful antibody discovery against complex targets.
As an integral part of the group, the ideal candidate will:
- Execute molecular biology workflows including Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) to capture antibody sequences from hybridoma, single B cell, immune repertoires and in vitro sources enabling discovery of antibodies as well as novel therapeutic formats
- Perform molecular cloning and contribute to technology development in the molecular biology group
- Further optimize NGS workflow, troubleshoot when needed, and identify areas for improvement
- Manage inventory and supplies and ensure routine maintenance of NGS and other lab instruments is performed
- Perform data analyses and report generation (bioinformatics experience is a plus)
- Analyze and document results, placing data in proper scientific context through review of relevant literature and report findings at team meetings
- Demonstrate scientific excellence through dedication to multiple projects in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment
- Exhibit a can-do attitude with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to multiple teams across different functional areas
Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or a related field with typically 5-7+ years (BS), or 2-5+ years (MS) of relevant industry or academic experience
- Understanding and proficiency in molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, molecular cloning, plasmid design)
- Experience with DNA sequencing techniques (NGS and Sanger) and sequence analysis
- Ability to improve and streamline existing processes
- Familiarity with immunology and antibody genetics
- Strong attention to quality and details when exercising organizational, documentation and communication skills
- Proven flexibility to deal with changing timelines and shifting work priorities
- Competency with software programs, including DNA analysis (Geneious, Sequencher) and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Desirable:
- Prior experience in bioinformatics and automation is highly desired
- Experience with antibody repertoire analysis using 10X Genomics
- Experience with mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique, and transient transfection
- Experience in immunoassays using techniques like ELISA and flow cytometry
Position will be hired based on level of experience - Scientist I or Scientist II

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
