Drug Product Development is responsible for the design and development of drug produts that enable delivery of AbbVie’s candidate molecules in a dosage form for clinical studies and commercialization. We have a challenging opportunity for a Scientist II based in North Chicago, IL.. AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative scientist with a proven track record in the design and characterization of oral dosage forms.
Key responsibilities include:
- Independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions. Understand the broad objectives of the project as well as their role in achieving those objectives, and modify experimental plan when required, to respond.
- Learn, understand and master new experimental techniques, and act as a resource or mentor for others.
- Innovate and implement new experimental protocols.
- Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in his/her field.
- Set and meet experimental timelines.
- Effectively organize and present scientific plans and data.
- Contribute to writing and conceptual framework of publications, presentations, and patents.
- Routinely read and apply relevant scientific literature.
- Impact projects mostly through lab and/or pilot plant-based activities where applicable.
- MS (typically 5+ years of experience) or BS (typically 7+ years experiences) in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent disciplines.
- Ability to independently design, execute and interpret experiments to answer scientific questions.
- Ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
- Ability to multitask and work within timelines.
- Scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team setting.
Preferred:
- Experience in utilizing analytical techniques and instruments (i.e. HPLC, DSC, TGA, PXRD, dissolution, etc.) for characterization of pharmaceutical dosage forms.
- Experience in the characterization of amorphous solid dispersion.
- Familiarity with GSP, GLP, GMP.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
