Job Description

The Scientist will be responsible for the below:

  • Provide technical support to characterize questions in the following chemical and structural properties:
  • Analytical science is not limited to chemical and structural R&D, pharmaceutical discovery and drug products.
  • Provides technical support to characterization to domains within neuroscience DMPK during pharmaceutical discovery and drug products.
  • Accountable for state results projects reports and experiments in support of method development and validation activities and state method transfers. Accountable for monitoring and meeting the heightened standards in customer service and regulatory compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicates with client topics from DMPK and local departments about analytical data from various sources, how the analytical data meets the client's needs, and the timing for analytical projects.
  • Communicates cooperatively with peers and routinely communicates with supervisors by keeping supervisors informed of results problems including subtle problems and likely potential problems.
  • Develop a variety of analytical test methods (i.e. HPLC, potency, impurities, etc.) and routinely keep the supervisor informed of progress and issues. Recognize simple technical issues which arise during method development.
  • Validate a variety of analytical test methods (i.e. HPLC, potency, impurities, etc.) using well-known approaches and topics and validation templates with occasional (e.g. weekly) input from the supervisor or technical staff.
  • Perform test method transfer by recommending topics and acceptance criteria, performing the required testing, per validation, communicating with the other lab(s) and completing the necessary paperwork and forms.
  • Ability to recognize and solve problems. Draw own conclusions from the technical data to solve problems. Supervisor or technical staff provide occasional direction for problem solving and they may provide technical reference and resources.
  • Knowledge and compliance with AbbVie SOP's, policies, cGMP's and safety. Maintain a clean and organized lab area.
  • Accurately record raw data and results in a timely manner and in compliance with appropriate quality standards. Make raw data verifiable in a timely manner. Verifies other data protocols and reports in timely manner and occasionally review other protocols and reports.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. May assist others in their projects as an associate scientist.
  • Provides technical support for introduction of new products and API's and for process improvement to existing products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in HPLC, GC, dissolution and other analytical techniques.
  • Experience in analytical method development and validation.
  • Ability to work independently, highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, computer proficiency (MS word, Excel, etc.).

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Science or equivalent; with 3-5 years of experience preferred. OR
  • MS degree in Science or related field; with 1-3 years of experience preferred.
  • Has basic computer knowledge and analytical testing experience in wet chemical, physical property testing, chromatography and/or spectrometric methods. Is knowledgeable of basic compliance requirements.
  • Has some problem solving abilities. Good organizational skills. Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Can function as a team player. Must be able to work with Commercial Operations to determine prioritization of projects and meet tight deadlines. Use good judgment and make sound decisions. Needs to be adaptable and maintain the ability to be flexible in an ever changing and challenging environment.
