The Biotherapeutics Production group at AbbVie is seeking an experienced cell line and protein expression scientist to join a fast paced, high throughput, large scale mammalian expression group. The Biotherapeutics mammalian expression group supports medium to large scale (1 to 100L) expression of antibodies and therapeutic biologics in support of AbbVie’s worldwide drug discovery efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expression of antibodies, bi-specifics, and other novel biologics formats to support therapeutic area drug discovery projects.
- Transient and stable expression vector design, generation of stable CHO cell lines.
- Mammalian cell culturing, including cryopreservation.
- Transient protein expression in HEK and CHO cells.
- Protein expression from stable CHO pools, cell lines, and hybridomas.
- Process development and optimization for batch and fed-batch Wave bioreactor and shake flask expressions of transient and stable CHO cell lines.
- Purification and biophysical characterization of analytical scale expression samples, including analytical HPLC.
- Work independently on the design, execution, and interpretation of experimental results.
- Analyze, document, and report data concisely and rigorously.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or related field with typically 5-7+ (BS) or 2-5+ (MS) years of experience.
- Hands-on experience with cell culture and transient protein expression in HEK and/or CHO cells.
- Prior experience in transient and stable vector design, generation of stable CHO cell lines
- Prior experience with maintenance and expression of stable CHO and hybridoma cell lines.
- Prior experience in mammalian expression using Wave bioreactors highly desirable.
- Experience in process development and process optimization.
- Proficiency in overcoming problems (i.e. low expression, aggregation, glycosylation) with challenging therapeutic proteins.
Position will be filled at level commensurate with extent of education, experience, and accomplishment. Scientist I or Scientist II.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
