Job Description

Purpose

Come work as a project manager where each day you partner with inclusive and collaborative business technology teams in the Business Management Office (BMO) for the dynamic and fast-paced Aesthetics portfolio at AbbVie. You will have opportunities to contribute to one of the foremost biopharma companies and leader in the Aesthetics industry, to help create solutions that impact patients and their communities for the better.  

The Project Manager for the BMO is responsible for planning, executing, and managing cross-functional projects in a highly matrixed environment. This role will collaborate directly with project sponsors and key stakeholders, team members and management, to oversee all phases of project planning, execution and financial management, while keeping all teams and documentation in sync. 

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to new teams, technology, and business areas.  Projects will navigate across all Aesthetics businesses and Business Technology Solutions (BTS) Center of Excellence (COE). Learning curve will be short to drive business partner and technical management confidence.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly assess technical knowledge gaps in the assigned project team and prepare a plan to mitigate the gaps with minimal impact to business expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project resource conflicting priorities when they are assigned to multiple projects and/or have production support responsibilities. Influencing skills is critical to success. 
  • Ability to collaborate with business partners to articulate business needs, develop requirements, and formulate project plans to deliver results.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to key stakeholders to drive alignment and initiate understanding of technical solutions in response to evolving business needs. 
  • Ability to develop and execute project communication plans, including key stakeholder, BTS leadership, and business status reporting. 
  • Responsible for defining project objectives and scope, aligning requirements to the business objectives, providing estimates to the business, gaining business approval, and assembling core & extended team members.
  • Project management experience using formal software lifecycle (SLC); project management methodology (PMP preferred), techniques, and tools is required.
  • Must have broad experience in change management, vendor management and application analysis and design, coupled with the ability to manage simultaneous priorities and changing deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to the project execution model, e.g. waterfall, agile, use of offshore project resources, consideration of resource time zones, method of setting project vs. support priorities.
  • Prepare statements of work, assuring accurate requirements, estimates, and deliverable schedules. 
  • Track and report on budget allocation; manage spend through project work. 
  • As a key member of BMO, act as a mentor to project managers in BTS COE towers to ensure common project management practices and standards.
  • Ability to identify, document, and execute process improvement changes.

Qualifications

Experiences that make you a strong candidates for this role: 

Required: 

  • Bachelor's Degree with 7 years’ experience; Master’s Degree with 6 years’ experience; or PhD with 2 years’ experience. 
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Project Manager managing software or web development projects using Agile methodologies. 
  • Proven ability to maintain status for multiple active projects. 
  • Solid understanding of software development life cycle and continuous improvement. 
  • Previous experience managing Agile (Scrum), waterfall, and hybrid projects. 
  • Ability to tailor project management processes to suit business needs and resources. 
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams including software engineers, QA engineers, business analysts, and product managers. 
  • Strong interpersonal / relationship management skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building. 
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills. 
  • Shows high level of initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Has critical reasoning skills including the identification and resolution of complex problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software management and collaboration tools, e.g.: 
  • Jira 
  • Confluence 
  • MS Teams 
  • Excel and/or Smartsheet 
  • PowerPoint

  • Experience working in regulated businesses. 
  • Experience being responsible for managing budgets on large-scale projects. 
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to communicate and coordinate activities and deliverables from engineering teams. 
  • Ability to provide leadership to business analysts and collaborate with customers to develop strategies and creative solutions to business challenges. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills interacting with business and technology teams.
