We are seeking an experienced Prep Cook who has experience working in a variety of settings, including restaurants, catering, commissary kitchens, employee feeding, and retail kitchens. As the ideal candidate, you will be skilled with time management, the ability to follow recipes, and thinking on your feet. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the chef and other kitchen staff in preparing various ingredients, such as vegetables, sauces, soups, dressings, marinades, and entrée components. Furthermore, you will work closely with the team to produce food for the cafeteria, catering, and aviation catering services, which includes supporting small catering events as well as large gatherings. The working hours for this position are from 5:30am to 2:00pm, Monday to Friday, with a willingness to work some weekend overtime if needed.
- Set up workstations by gathering all necessary ingredients and cooking equipment.
- Prepare ingredients for cooking, including tasks such as peeling and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, etc.
- Collaborate with the chef and sous chef to determine daily responsibilities and assist in running the operations of a specific station.
- Prepare and cook menu items for the day, including soups, entrees, made-to-order displays, and catering hot food.
- Serve food according to approved menus, ensuring minimal waste.
- Adhere to food safety standards, following closing procedures and properly storing food items.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas, equipment, and service stations, while also prepping items for the next day.
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service, handling concerns professionally and escalating when necessary.
- Be proactive, self-motivated, and capable of following instructions and recipes accurately.
- Uphold the professional image of the AbbVie Foodservice organization by maintaining a positive attitude.
- Perform other tasks and assignments as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED is required, with previous cooking experience, preferably in a high-volume commissary kitchen or catering/event cooking, and some knowledge of menu development. A culinary certificate is a plus.
- A valid driver's license, sanitation certificate, and the ability to work in the United States is required.
- Skilled in producing large batches of food and maintaining a positive, proactive attitude as a team member.
- Basic knife handling skills and comprehensive knowledge of various types of foodservice equipment, including cutting tools, cookware, bakeware, slicers, food processors, griddles, ovens, burners, and mixers.
- Ability to follow written recipes and verbal instructions for menu and catering items.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to take direction and complete tasks.
- Self-motivation and exceptional communication skills to deliver outstanding guest service.
- Proactive team player who can adapt positively to changes.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent work and attendance record, flexibility with work schedule and willingness to work overtime when needed.
