We are currently recruiting for a Mould Maintenance Operator in our Plastics Manufacturing department on a permanent basis in AbbVie Westport, Co, Mayo.
In this position you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the production of high-quality plastic parts by maintaining moulding machines and moulds. This position requires proactive communication with machine operatives to swiftly address and resolve equipment issues, ensuring seamless operations. The role demands adherence to cGMP guidelines and procedures to consistently meet production targets. Additionally, the Mould Maintenance Operator supports maintenance efforts, engages in validation activities, and seeks opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain thermoplastic moulds to ensure consistent quality, output and yield.
- The Mould Maintenance operator must be mechanically inclined and is responsible for maintaining and checking all moulds.
- Coordinate the maintenance of the moulds and moulding machines
- Independently execute preventive maintenance on mould tooling and ensure the injection machines are clean and operationally sound.
- Trouble shoot any problems involved with mould changes
- Support the daily production team as required.
- Liaise with external vendors regarding moulds.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues efficiently during production to minimize downtime and maintain optimal production efficiency.
- Provide plastic expertise to assist in root cause analysis in manufacturing investigations.
- Support the performance of validation activities.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Department on maintenance works.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure the quality of work is within the required standards and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area during and at the end of each shift.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- National certificate in a mechanical discipline or equivalent is required
- Expertise in one or more areas: Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Mechanical systems.
- Strong technical aptitude.
- Ability to read technical drawings, manuals and use measuring tools.
- Proficiency in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and repairing.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and achieve Plastic Department objectives with minimal supervision.
- Effective collaboration skills, ability to work with operators, validation personnel, engineers, contractors, and vendor representatives.
- Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to thrive in a pressurized environment and meet deadlines.
- Hard-working attitude with flexibility to adapt to changes.
- A solid understanding of health & safety requirements.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new programs and applications.
- Flexible working hours with a mix of day, evening and night shifts.
