As our Medical Advisor for Eye Care, you will serve as the scientific cornerstone of the Medical Affairs team, shaping the future of ophthalmology care in the Netherlands. In this hands-on role, you will collaborate cross-functionally within brand teams, deliver on robust medical plans, and actively engage with healthcare professionals to translate strategy into action. You report directly to the Head of Medical Affairs and join a passionate team dedicated to improving patients’ lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Play a key role in planning, executing, and delivering medical affairs activities for the Eye Care portfolio, including both established and pipeline products.
- Actively work in close collaboration with commercial, market access, and in-field colleagues to bring brand strategies to life and ensure effective medical input into brand strategy and market access efforts.
- Be the point of contact for healthcare professionals (HCPs) for scientific and clinical information related to ophthalmology and AbbVie’s Eye Care products, ensuring safe and effective product use.
- Deliver educational activities and credible presentations to physicians and other stakeholders, measuring improved education and awareness as a KPI.
- Support the relaunch of established products and introduction of new therapies, with a focus on translating data into value for Dutch patients and HCPs.
- Provide medical expertise in cross-functional meetings, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing within and beyond the Eye Care team.
- Collaborate on clinical studies (including personalized medicine approaches), and work closely with colleagues on the efficient execution and follow-up of local and global trials.
- Ensure all activities are compliant with legal, regulatory, and AbbVie’s internal standards.
- Degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or equivalent (PhD a plus but not essential).
- 2+ years’ experience in Medical Affairs, ideally in ophthalmology or a related field; experience as an MSL and demonstrated hands-on execution is strongly preferred.
- Fluent in Dutch (spoken and written), and English.
- Proactive, pragmatic, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves. Comfortable taking ownership and driving action.
- Demonstrated success in cross-functional team environments, preferably within commercial/brand teams.
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with the Dutch pharmaceutical environment and compliance landscape.

Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
