AbbVie are seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team in Carraigtwohill, Cork. This is a 23 month fixed term contract. The Maintenance Engineer reports to the Engineering Operations Manager. In this role, you will provide technical expertise for day-to-day production issues, with a focus on reliability engineering, asset management, continuous improvement, and energy/sustainability initiatives. You will also support manufacturing projects and help keep the site compliant, efficient, and audit-ready.
Key responsibilities
- Support day-to-day production issues and reliability engineering activities
- Troubleshoot technical issues and identify the most effective solutions
- Support manufacturing projects in line with quality, safety, environmental, and operational requirements
- Lead/support projects, training development, and cross-training
- Drive process improvements and Kaizen activities
- Work with EHS to ensure safety of staff and contractors
- Ensure compliance with Engineering Change Control
- Support reliability standards for equipment, processes, systems, and utilities
- Participate in RCAs and implement corrective actions
- Develop business cases for technical improvement projects
- Improve maintenance systems and identify technical/financial opportunities
- Support energy management, sustainability, and asset lifecycle planning
- Degree (Level 8) in Mechanical or Chemical/Process Engineering or related subject area
- 2+ years’ experience in a Maintenance Engineering or similar role in an FDA or HPRA regulated environment
- Experience in a sterile fill facility
- Strong knowledge of cGMP and pharmaceutical regulatory requirements
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills
- Fluent English
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook

Where We Work
Role is exclusively performed at a site or office and onsite presence is required. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
