About the Team

Become part of our highly collaborative Design Practice located within AbbVie's enterprise IT division, where we function as an in-house consultancy. Through close partnerships with cross-functional teams, we acquire valuable insights into our end-users' needs and motivations, empowering us to design and develop innovative solutions and experiences.

Our mission is to create meaningful and impactful experiences for our AbbVie colleagues across web, mobile, and internal software platforms.


About the Role

As a Lead Design Strategist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping user experience and design strategy for a variety of innovative solutions and experiences that cater to the needs of our colleagues (both employees and contractors) and drive value for AbbVie. You will collaborate with research, design, product, technology, and other stakeholders to set the vision and deliver impactful user and colleague experiences. This role involves designing and planning highly collaborative, cross-functional workshops to promote a user-centered approach to problem-solving.

This position reports to the Director of User Experience at AbbVie's global headquarters in Lake County, IL.

Responsibilities

  • Lead UX projects within AbbVie's enterprise IT division.
  • Appropriately pair the right approaches with project goals to achieve high quality outcomes at reasonable cost.
  • Oversee project execution, ensuring deliverables are met, and direct project activities.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand and align intentions, objectives, and desired outcomes.
  • Facilitate workshops for strategic planning, alignment, problem framing, ideation, blueprinting, and journey mapping.
  • Translate complex business requirements into innovative and impactful design solutions.
  • Lead service design projects to optimize colleague journeys and streamline AbbVie services.
  • Conduct or collaborate on user research, analyze data, and derive actionable insights.
  • Utilize user research and insights to guide design decisions and recommendations.
  • Work with solution and service owners, developers, and stakeholders to ensure feasible design solutions aligned with business goals.
  • Present design concepts and strategies to stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Champion design thinking methodologies with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's with 7 years, Master's with 6 years, or PhD with 2 years of experience in Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent certification.
  • Over 6 years of experience as a UX practitioner, with 3+ years in service design.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate design projects, ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, and scope.
  • Proven expertise in Design Strategy, with a strong foundation in user-centered design methods and techniques.
  • Strong skills in strategic thinking and problem framing, with experience delivering innovative solutions that drive business success.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership abilities, able to lead cross-functional teams and present effectively to stakeholders and executives.
  • Proven facilitation and collaboration skills, able to lead workshops for strategic planning, alignment, problem framing, and journey mapping.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading service design projects and deliverables, including journey maps and service blueprints.
  • Strong business acumen with a user-focused mindset.
  • Proficiency in conducting user research, gathering insights, and analyzing data to inform design decisions and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in design collaboration and mapping tools such as Mural and FigJam.
  • Strong business acumen with a user-focused mindset.
