As our colleague is moving forward with her career inside AbbVie, we are now looking for a

HEAD OF MEDICAL AFFAIRS  

to our Immunology team in Helsinki. In this role, you lead a medical affairs team and provide strategic and scientific advice to internal and external stakeholders within the Immunology therapeutic area. You set and execute medical affairs strategy for the affiliate and ensure the Immunology medical team contributes valuable, strategic input to local and global brand plans. 

As a Head of Medical Affairs for Immunology, you maintain and build a medical affairs organization that is fully integrated in cross-functional teams (e.g., brand teams) to support the strategy and execution of the affiliate priorities. With your leadership and example, you drive medical excellence and inspire co-creation of innovative solutions through internal and external partnerships. You report to the Affiliate Medical Director and work very closely with your colleagues from other therapeutic areas.

Your key areas of responsibility are:

  • being responsible for delegated therapeutic area related activities by the Medical Director (MD) as documented in the MD delegation log. 
  • being medically responsible for the assigned therapeutic product portfolio, providing strategic and tactical direction to your team, driving execution according to global/affiliate medical priorities, and you identify innovative medical strategic approaches, and you provide strategic input to cross-functional plans and leadership teams.
  • being accountable for proper resource allocation in a multi-layer, medical organization; leading a team of medical employees; you ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities within the organization.
  • managing inclusively and equally your team ensuring diversity and integration of employees from various backgrounds. You identify, develop, and promote talents within the national medical affairs organization according to AbbVie Talent processes.  
  • being a proactive, solution-oriented member of Finland medical affairs leadership team, and cross-functional partner of the respective Business Unit Manager and Market Access Lead, as a member of Finland immunology leadership team.
  • acting as a country representative of the medical immunology at the local, area and global meetings, driving assigned affiliate responsibilities. You drive local medical and field excellence within the therapeutic area, representing medical affairs/AbbVie externally and you maintain an excellent network with the external experts in your therapeutic area.
  • building and executing strategic evidence generation plans addressing local/global data gaps, reviewing medical patient cases, supporting Pharmacovigilance and other functions with strategic medical guidance related to product safety, driving efficient collaboration within the local study management organization.
  • being a proactive cross-functional, strategic business partner, analyzing local and global competitive intelligence and providing strategic perspective to cross-functional partners, supporting market access/HTA-negotiations and activities as needed.
  • overseeing medical review within the assigned therapeutic area, ensuring appropriate use of product claims, coordinating and/or supporting medical content for legal and/or regulatory affairs.
     

Qualifications

In order to succeed in this role, we expect you to have:

  • applicable higher Scientific Education degree (Medical Doctor (or equivalent scientific degree preferably PhD)). 
  • more than 5 years medical affairs experience working in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry. 
  • experience of leading medical teams or having matrix leadership experience with proven leadership skills in a cross-functional environment and track record of producing results in a matrix setting on time and in budget.
  • experience with medical brand leadership and core elements of medical affairs deliverables: employee engagement, medical education, congress presence, publications and research, Real World Evidence and MSL/Field leadership.
  • experience interacting both externally and internally to support Affiliate or Area business strategy. Keen interest in developing and maintaining expert knowledge for assigned therapeutic area/product and in medical research in general.
  • passionate and innovative mindset and can-do attitude.

In addition, you have good knowledge of the health care environment, patient needs, market access, and reimbursement issues. Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills and fluency in Finnish and in English are highly desirable to facilitate communications between the affiliate medical department, Area and Global Medical Affairs and with other AbbVie representatives and stakeholders. You are customer oriented, with a strong commitment to compliance with the relevant rules and procedures, scientific quality, and integrity. Your diverse array of influencing skills with high emotional intelligence and interpersonal savvy help you to navigate in complex, changing environment and to lead your team effectively in exceptional results.
