Job Description

Head of International Communications –  Global Aesthetics

 

The Head of International Communications will lead the Global Communications efforts for Aesthetics Commercial organization, comprised of communication strategies impacting over 30 countries and 2,500 colleagues outside of the US.  The Incumbent is responsible and accountable for the oversight and leadership of the Communications staff and projects across all key Aesthetics franchises.  This role reports to the VP, Global Customer Engagement & Corporate Affairs for Global Aesthetics.

The incumbent is accountable for leading across all aspects of PR & Communications for Allergan Aesthetics, International (for strategies such as product brand, corporate brand, function support, services, executive communications, Corporate Engagements, internal engagement, reputational management).  This role will create, drive, and lead strategy development and programming for Brand programs, working as part of a cross-functional International Brand Team. The incumbent will ensure country briefing gears local activation for success and support implementation and adaptation of strategies and messaging in each country as needed.  In this role, the leader will lead & oversee execution for our internal employee engagement strategy development, including dedicated channel launch, promotion of key milestones and news across the Aesthetics International employees.

 

The role requires knowledge of each of the franchises within Aesthetics, with the ability to act and pivot across brand needs and implement effective change as necessary. You will be responsible for prioritizing projects in line with the overall strategy to provide value to the business as well as ensure enterprise-wide communications are delivered at a high quality.

 Responsibilities include:

  1. Responsible and accountable for functioning and output across all aspects of PR & Communications for Allergan Aesthetics, International (Including but not exhaustive: product brand, corporate brand, function support, services, executive communications, GA, internal engagement, reputational management).  Strategy development and programming for Brand programs, working as part of a cross-functional International Brand Team. Ensure country briefing gears local activation for success, support implementation as needed (e.g. upskill, adaptation to local strategy). 

 

  1. Champion corporate brand narrative development (thought leadership) and activation through creation of strategic campaigns aligned to Allergan Aesthetics, while accounting for internal policy adaptations, guidance, training, toolkit development and localized resources. 

 

  1. Protect corporate reputation through leadership of global (and local where needed) issues management in cross-functional partnership with Medical, Legal, Regulatory and other commercial leaders to develop communications strategy, materials, engagement, anticipatory and reactive needs, in partnership with Corporate partners. 

 

  1. Build and foster positive, impactful working relationships with AbbVie Global & Area communications colleagues to support and prepare for issues impacting both companies and supporting leadership in country with triage, updates, impact and action plan. 

 

  1. Partner with AbbVie Government Affairs, Regulatory, Legal and Medical to define (proactive, reactive, anticipatory) strategy and communications plans to address or take advantage of external commercial / engagement opportunities (e.g. regulatory, government policy change). 

 

  1. Lead internal employee engagement strategy development, oversee execution, including dedicated channel launch, promotion of key milestones and news across International employee community. 

 

  1. Lead Executive Communications messaging, materials, training support (Internal & External) for International Commercial President (while providing guidance to members of IALT). 

 

  1. Provide strategic communications counsel to IALT, IMCO, Area Communications leaders. 

 

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Lead, and coach the International Communications team
  • Develop and own the long-term vision for International Communications across AA, including communications roadmap, hiring plan and overall budget 
  • Oversee external technical partners and vendors
  • Analyzing, managing project risks and proposing solutions for risk mitigation
  • Manage relationships with cross-functional partners to ensure shared success and accountability

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 15+ years professional experience at a minimum. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience leading communications strategies in high paced health care setting, ideally with some exposure to Aesthetics
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and influence senior executives
  • Strong leadership capabilities, including team sourcing, onboarding, professional development, and creating an inspirational team experience
  • Ability to objectively exercise judgment and create pragmatic solutions to address complex cross-functional problems and to be accountable for obtaining stakeholder insights to make informed decisions, in order to move a communication strategy forward in the face of uncertainty
  • Strong and professional customer-facing skillset  with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Deadline-driven, organized and able to multitask
  • Endless curiosity and innovative approaches of thinking ‘outside of the box’
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​
