AbbVie’s Corporate Responsibility & Global Philanthropy organization—which currently includes Global Patient Access Programs, Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG), Independent Medical & Patient Education, Global Philanthropy and Impact Communications—seeks to advance and sustain transformational impact for patients, communities, our business, and people. We are now embarking on the expansion of this organization with the creation of a new enterprise, global team – Global Patient & Community Partnerships.
The Head, Global Patient & Community Partnerships will be responsible for building this new, global, enterprise function at AbbVie – from implementing its operating model to setting and overseeing its strategic direction to demonstrating impact both for the patient advocacy community and for AbbVie’s business. The Head will have oversight of a team of at least four direct reports and will report into the Vice President, Corporate Responsibility & Global Philanthropy, within the Corporate Affairs organization.
Responsibilities include:
- Build AbbVie's newly dedicated Global Patient & Community Partnerships center of excellence to maximize the impact of patient, caregiver and community group engagement across AbbVie.
- Oversee a team of patient, caregiver and community group engagement experts that collaborate and convene cross-functional stakeholders to advance integrated patient group engagement strategies for priority disease areas; building patient, caregiver and community group engagement capabilities to support a consistent, patient-centric engagement approach across the enterprise; cultivating meaningful, impactful relationships with groups starting early in the R&D process and throughout the lifecycle to help incorporate and amplify the patient voice across AbbVie; and working with relevant insights-related functions to collect insights that bring value and support decision making for internal and external stakeholders.
- Implement new operating model, including processes, governance and ways of working that optimize engagement with functional colleagues, enabling effective and positive collaboration to achieve disease area goals.
- Foster an environment of learning and collaboration, ensuring best practices, learnings and opportunities are shared across the team to support high performance and impact
- Sit on the Corporate Responsibility & Global Philanthropy leadership team, building connections and driving alignment with broader organizational priorities and strategies
- Work in close coordination with functional leadership (e.g., R&D, Commercial, Corporate Affairs, Government Affairs, etc) to foster alignment on business and disease area priorities to ensure appropriate prioritization of patient group engagement and focus, and to ensure ongoing transparency of progress and impact.
- 15 years of experience in healthcare/biopharma in patient advocacy, patient relations, patient engagement, community engagement, policy advocacy, or corporate affairs
- Demonstrated experience in successfully leading a new or evolved organization, developing clear governance and effective operating models, and establishing internal networks
- Strong judgment, strategic thinking, and business acumen; able to effectively evaluate which strategies create most business impact for the unique needs of AbbVie's diverse set of disease areas
- Ability to proactively understand enterprise-wide patient advocacy needs and make connections across functions, setting teams up for success to execute insight-driven, patient-centric, and measurable patient advocacy strategies
- Strong respect and proven track record of building and maintaining meaningful, trust-based relationships with patient advocacy communities, demonstrating deep respect, understanding and appreciation for the patient voice and equity
- Strong executive presence, leadership, and partnering skills; effectively communicates to influence decisions in a highly matrixed organization
- Capable of attracting and developing world-class diverse talent
- Sets high standard for excellence in own work and expectations of team
- Manages conflict in a constructive, transparent way
- Creates an environment in which people appropriately experiment and challenge the status quo
- Persistent and resilient—finds the way to move good ideas forward

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
