Job Description

Purpose

The Fermentation Operations Manager is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the fermentation area, particularly the support functions of the department. They must manage, guide, and coordinate resources for the continuity of operations, with the expectation to achieve or exceed key performance metrics. The operation of the facility must comply with federal and local government regulations and operate efficiently. The Operations Manager will plan / execute site directives and define the manufacturing plan to meet production, quality, safety, and financial demands of the operation. They will lead department personnel scheduling and development, building and supporting a culture of high performance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and control the operation to meet the plant throughput while maintaining safety, quality, cost, and customer satisfaction. Track and trend performance levels to maximize the operations. Collaborate with peers and cross-functional partners to define action plans, timelines and budgets for project and product goals.
  • Assist teams in troubleshooting manufacturing issues; provide technical guidance and direction to cross-functional partners to optimize processes. Ensure staff are provided with technical knowledge and training to efficiently produce the highest quality products.
  • Drive and lead the manufacturing area to meet the site business strategies; accountable for operating expenses, payroll and capital expenditures for manufacturing area. Recommend and implement business strategies to reduce costs; actively work to adapt and transform the organization to meet changing business needs.
  • Build positive culture and develop team while overseeing the department. Monitor team workload, guide team through complex work issues, and answer questions. Interview and hire new members as needed. Collaborate with team members to establish performance goals, conducts performance reviews, and assists with succession planning.
  • Assure compliance of federal, local and international regulatory agencies. Anticipate and correct situations that affect compliance.
  • Manage effective deployment of labor resources across shift and work centers. Identify cross-training requirements to ensure maximum labor flexibility. Identify and coordinate training as well as professional developmental needs for personnel, including production personnel, to maintain a well-prepared workforce.
  • Lead problem resolution through root cause analysis. Participate in establishing and approving effective corrective actions to address root cause of event.
  • Drive continuous improvement and employee engagement across the plant. Assure that Departmental Standard Operating Procedures and Process Descriptions are maintained, updated, and their content follows the proper regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
  • Eight years of experience in a manufacturing facility
  • Five years of leadership experience
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication, and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and manage conflict
  • Proficient knowledge on Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
