AbbVie is seeking a Facilities, Utilities and Energy Lead to provide leadership across site facilities, utilities, and energy management activities within the Engineering function at our manufacturing site in Carraigtwohill, Cork. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of site facilities and utilities, while driving energy efficiency, compliance, and operational excellence across the Cork site.
You will lead the site’s energy management programme in line with ISO 50001 standards, support GMP manufacturing operations, and work cross-functionally to improve site performance, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with EHS and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of facilities and utilities to support GMP manufacturing operations.
- Lead the site Energy Management Programme in accordance with ISO 50001 to maximise energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and meet site and corporate objectives.
- Develop, implement, and track facilities, utilities, and energy KPIs.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage energy budgets, including electricity, gas, and water consumption, as well as commercial and NPI-related costs.
- Review facility and plant performance to identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Analyse data, prepare reports, and make recommendations to improve site facilities and plant operations.
- Identify, initiate, and deliver projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
- Lead and support the site Energy Team, including audit preparation, compliance, and energy improvement initiatives.
- Monitor utility and energy usage across the site to identify significant energy aspects, impacts, and opportunities for reduction.
- Ensure energy considerations are integrated into capital planning, procurement, change control, and equipment operation, calibration, and maintenance.
- Manage Facility, Utility and Energy-related contracts, including soft services, pest control, cleaning, access control, and key systems.
- Act as the Business Continuity Coordinator for Facilities BC activities.
- Represent the site on relevant global communities of practice.
- Promote energy awareness across the organisation and support internal and external communication relating to the energy management system.
- Support site reporting requirements, including updates to Corporate EIIS, EHS reporting, and SEAI submissions.
- Lead and develop direct reports, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure adherence to EHS, GMP, company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Relevant third-level qualification in engineering, facilities management, energy management, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience gained in the pharmaceutical indusrty.
- 7+ years experience in facilities, utilities, energy management, or engineering within a pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or regulated environment.
- Experience managing preventative maintenance programmes, utility systems, and energy efficiency initiatives
- Previous people leadership or team supervision experience preferred.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment..
- Must have strong CMMS experience and high level of computer literacy – Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
- Demonstrated experience in budget management, KPI tracking, and operational improvement delivery.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 50001, GMP, and EHS requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Where We Work
Role is exclusively performed at a site or office and onsite presence is required. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
