Job Description

AbbVie Bioresearch Center (ABC) in Worcester, MA is seeking a Senior Facility Engineer to be part of the Facilities Engineering group.   The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting the ongoing operation and upgrades of Biopharma related facilities and utility equipment.  

Responsibilities:

  • Acting as a subject matter expert in utility and HVAC equipment at ABC w ith a focus on utility design related to renovation, new construction, and the installation of facility related equipment.

  • Support ongoing HVAC and Utility equipment operation and maintenance, including procedures, field troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, and PM evaluations to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

  • Support equipment startup or modifications, including (but not limited to) the execution of commissioning activities, field troubleshooting, and field support of validation staff.  

  • Development of scopes, specifications, estimates and standards for facility and utility related projects.

  • Review of designs from outside firms to ensure that they meet all applicable site specifications and standards, user requirements and applicable codes.

  • Key member of ISO50001 energy team.  Participation in energy reduction initiatives and projects.

  • Oversee all on-site contractors for assigned projects.   This includes (but is not limited to) scheduling of contractors around production operations, generation of contractor safety permits, oversight of contractor safety while on site, and continuous review / approval of contractor equipment installation during construction.  

  • Oversee the overall implementation schedule for assigned projects and take necessary actions to ensure that all assigned projects are completed and fully turned over to internal customers within pre-established deadlines.  

  • Oversee design of vendor-fabricated utility equipment, including review and approval of all vendor submittals with internal stakeholders, and preparation/execution of factory and site acceptance testing (FAT / SAT) protocols as applicable.

  • Significant Work Activities -Continuous standing for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)

 


Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering, or equivalent degree with a minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience is required.  
  • The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of engineering design of Biopharmaceutical utility and building equipment, as well as controls and instrumentation for GMP equipment and HVAC utilities.  
  • Experience in supporting the operation of Utilities and HVAC equipment specific to the requirements of Biopharmaceutical facilities.
  • Experience with design and implementation of Energy and Carbon reduction improvements to Utility and HVAC equipment.
  • Possess excellent attention to detail and ability to diagnose/troubleshoot operational problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively, possesses excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Teamwork, leadership, and the ability to maintain constructive relationships with personnel from various disciplines at all levels in the organization are desired competencies.
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate integrity, reliability, dedication, adaptability, innovation, and self-motivation.

 

  • Candidates must be able to lift 25 lbs. and negotiate pipe racks/ ladders.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
