The Director of Legal Business Process Excellence will play a crucial role in driving the efficiencies and delivering a highly differentiated experience for AbbVie's legal team. The Director will report to the VP of Legal Operations and will be responsible for utilizing process mapping, process improvement, design thinking, client experience, and change leadership methodologies to drive measurable cost savings and increase client satisfaction. Collaboration and partnership with all staff, including Senior Leaders in Legal, Legal Business Technology Solutions (BTS/IT), and Legal Finance teams, will be essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct long range planning for legal technologies to develop a roadmap in partnership with Legal BTS team.
- Drive the budgeting, identification, selection, development, enhancement, delivery, maintenance, and adoption of legal technology solutions, working cross-functionally with IT, Finance & Legal teams.
- Coach, mentor, and train the Legal team in process improvement philosophy, methods, and tools to increase organizational capability to identify process improvement opportunities.
- Implement process improvement discipline to increase quality, improve delivery, and establish sustainable measurement. Identify and streamline legal function engagement processes, quantifying and measuring the impact of process improvement efforts and decreased costs. Leverage success stories to drive adoption and awareness throughout the organization.
- Lead legal operation initiatives, partnering with various legal and non-legal departments to deliver timely and exceptional results in areas such as process, technology, and culture.
- Conduct global benchmarking, comparative analysis, and voice of the customer exercises to ensure AbbVie Legal remains effective and innovative in the in-house industry.
- Develop, deploy, and educate the Legal function in areas of legal knowledge management, including effective methods for creating, preserving, and sharing information such as operational policies and procedures, best practices, and partner communications.
- Oversee day-to-day legal operation tasks, including employee and contractor onboarding, system legal hold reviews, SharePoint site maintenance, legal-wide communication, and legal technology budgeting and forecasting.
- Contribute to team culture by fostering a "Trust & Inspire" environment where expectations, accountability, and consequences are collectively agreed upon.
Significant Work Activities -Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree in a related field. MBA or JD preferred.
- 10 years of legal operations in roles of increasing complexity, with a proven record of successfully completed improvement projects with documented bottom-line impact.
- Understanding of the in-house legal technology landscape is required.
- Significant change management experience focused on delivering measurable process improvement in the legal field.
- Lean Six Sigma and Design Thinking experience is preferred.
- Experience leading process innovation and client experience-driven projects to deliver significant improvement.
