Trade Strategy and Marketing at AbbVie has evolved significantly from an operational and tactical focused responsibility for select products to one requiring development of complex pharmacy and distribution strategies across the entire portfolio. A key component of this evolution are the needs of stakeholders in the specialty pharmacy channel, in which AbbVie has a significant footprint of high-value brands supporting patients in Immunology, Oncology, Neuroscience and select Specialty products. These high-cost medications used to treat complex, chronic conditions often require special storage, handling and administration, and typically involve a significant degree of coordination with payers and HCPS, as well as dedication to patient education, monitoring and management. Another emerging channel in the AbbVie portfolio is the retail channel, in which crucial therapeutic areas such as Migraine, Psychiatry and GI Care have higher cost and payer managed medications which require a higher level of support as well.
The expectations of a specialty and retail pharmacy and role of a pharmacist in the health care ecosystem is quickly evolving as technologies drive exponential change and transform the future of pharmacy. Many pharmacies are just beginning to embrace new technologies and customer service innovation, and as community-based retail pharmacies reinvent themselves to meet the evolving needs of their patients, a Director II of Trade Strategy & Marketing is needed to establish the vision and strategy for how AbbVie will partner with these key stakeholders to optimize the patient experience and grow our business now and in the future. Patients are also evolving, as are their needs and expectations of their experience at the pharmacy. Whether it be a focus on convenience by experimenting with new, digital capabilities of their pharmacy, or seeking higher-touch clinical support models, these increasing patient demands put pressure on manufactures such as AbbVie to define our future pharmacy value propositions and identify stakeholders in the channel to partner with to navigate this complex environment.
